Jed Hoyer: Adrian Gonzalez isn’t a goner yet - BostonHerald.com

More options mean more trade value.

So the day after John Boggs, the agent of Adrian Gonzalez and Padres CEO Jeff Moorad each indicated to the San Diego Union-Tribune that a trade of Gonzalez looked more likely than a contract extension, Hoyer kept his choices at the maximum.

He indicated it’s too early to assume anything about anyone.

“The team’s position with regard to Adrian has not changed at all,” said Hoyer in an e-mail to the Herald. “We are excited to have him under contract for the next two seasons. He is a great player who fits our city, team and payroll remarkably well. We have had, and will continue to have, dialogue with Adrian’s representatives about keeping him in San Diego long term.

“It is still early in that process and attempting to draw conclusions in the middle of any negotiation is an inexact science.”

I thought he was going to the Sox? Youk-Gon looks way better than Belt-Youk.

how is this even a news article? nothing was said, and worse, there was no update to anything else that was said in the past.

Red Sox fans have had their collective eye on Gonzlaez ever since Hoyer was hired. Furtado keeps tabs on stuff like this.

a) It's not news, it's the Boston Herald.
b) It's the offseason, got to write about something.

My read on this is Hoyer is doing a little PR/information flow control, so Gonzalez won't feel dissed. I live in SD and work in the South Bay where Gonzalez grew up, and while he's not Ripken in Baltimore or anything like that, a lot of the Mexican-American population (and other people, but not to the same degree in a collective sense) down here and in the city in general does like him and cares about him. I see a fair number of AG jerseys around town during baseball season. Add that to the fact that the Padres let Hoffman walk and traded Peavy, Moorad and Hoyer need to handle this with careful words and restraint.

Does anyone know if Moorad still owns a 12% stake in the D-Backs? I can't believe MLB would let Moorad have an ownership stake in two teams.

Pretty sure he sold it.
