JS Online: Headhunters no surprise to Yost

Milwaukee: Land of a thousand dances...around questions.

Ned Yost expressed no surprise that it only took a six-game losing streak for some people to start calling for his skin.

“It doesn’t surprise me a bit,” the Milwaukee Brewers’ manager said Friday upon returning home after his reeling club was swept in both Houston and Florida. “It doesn’t concern me, really, or bother me.”

Why doesn’t it bother Yost?

“The thing that matters is that the people who know the game understand what’s going on,” said Yost, who was being skewered on radio shows and message boards. “You’re not going to make everybody happy. There’s no way.

“You have to know in your heart that you’re doing everything you can do, that you’re not cutting any corners. My entire focus is on the players and this organization. It’s not productive (to listen to the critics).

“If you look where we’ve come from, six years ago, it’s a process but we’re definitely taking steps forward. You can’t make everyone happy.”

It's not time to be "taking steps forward."

They've already taken the steps forward.

Now it's time to win before all the good players walk in their FA years.

Sorry, Mr. Yost, but I would count Harveys as one of those "people who know the game." And he ain't in your camp.

Levi:

I appreciate the compliment.

But this is how Yost keeps the local media enthralled. He works to project an image of being combative but in reality he shies away from confrontation. When a player with a challenging personality like a Podsednik or Estrada is on the team and at some point causes a kerfuffle Yost is all a tizzy. The Brewers are a bunch of hard-working guys who just want to win.

Wouldn't hurt to have a bit of the red-#ss on the team. But Melvin knows Ned can't manage with that element on the team.

Another accomodation to the manager's limitations. As you can tell the list is pretty d#mn long.

I thought that Kendall would provide that, as his RAARP (Red-Assedness Above Replacement Player) is at an inner-circle HOF level. Has Kendall mellowed with age and injuries?

Call me when the Brewers pick up Ted Williams. They were better off without bums like Estrada and Podsednik, so who cares how Yost handled them? They weren't worth the time.
