McLane tested Acta. Was he a loyal corporate soldier or a journeyman mercenary? McLane got the answer he needed to know.
Acta, however, should have had in mind a different set of questions, like 'I have a terrible career managing win-loss record; which organization is more likely to improve that for my next job?'
And this is the character flaw for Lords of Commerce like Drayton McLane. It's all about them. So they end up surrounded by 'yes-people' with nowhere else to go.
