Did you edit your players at all or did they just get retarded legendarily good on their own?
I love OOTP but it always drives me crazy with how some wacky things like that happen in the game, esp when it comes to how players develop and some of the moves other teams make.
I just want an uber realistic GM sim someday
Did you guys edit your players or did they just get retarded, legendarily good on their own.
I love OOTP but it drives me nuts with how unrealistic and wacky player development, and some of the AI GMing, can be sometimes.
Someday I just want to play an uber-realistic GM sim

That's from the RLPA, the OOTP league that originally began off of BTF. Callaspo happened to get talent boosts fairly frequently. His performance in our most recent season (2022) was probably the most surprising, as his ratings plummeted but he continued raking.
The address of what the red light was near is north of Brush Creek, and probably off campus. So perhaps Callaspo was driving suspiciously before then.
There's also no light at 48th/Oak

He imported into the league as a pretty good prospect (I believe 3.5* out of 5*, back in 2004), but got a couple of big boosts just after making the majors in 2007.
If you think his numbers are sick, you should see Jeff Fiorentino. Barring injury, he'll likely retire as a 750-750 HR/SB guy. He may not even be a 750 AB guy in real life.
And how the crap did Fiorentino change teams so much despite so great?
.388/.551/1.128, 41 HRs in 289 AB. Somehow he ended up with 112 hits and 110 extra base hits (47 doubles, 22 triples). Due to injuries, he missed huge chunks of the year.
Splits, since i'm bored
April: 13 HR, 95 AB, 27 games
May: 12 HRs, 86 AB, 27 games
June: 6 HR, 54 AB, 19 games
July: 7 HR, 23 AB, 8 games
August: 0 HR, 1 AB, 1 game
September: 3 HR, 30 AB, 11 games
I also had Baseball Mogul, and my rotation of Kazmir and Ryan Hannaman was awesome, while Royce Ring ran up like 300 saves.
We've got some pretty strict financial rules that can force teams into trading players. Matt Cain once won 20 games before the end of July, then got traded at the deadline.
Fiorentino came about after we had tweaked the draft modifiers because our first few drafts were so awful. There was a whole class of guys in the drafts from 2007 to about 2010 with some crazy good talents (at least on the hitting side). Fiorentino was already going to be a monster, then got a big contact boost just as he hit the major leagues and turned into Babe Ruth with speed.
Really, aside from Fiorentino and Callaspo, we haven't had ridiculously great players. Though Rick Porcello is starting to look crazy - he's got 705 Ks in his first 2 seasons, and probably 2 CYAs by age 22.
That was me! But it had nothing to do with finances and everything to do with a firesale.
(PS: He still won the AL Cy Young for his production even though he got traded to the NL!)
And we trade like rabbits, besides. No one is safe.
OOTP requires a lot of tweaking with the ratings.
I think this is due to the fact that they have two sliding scales that you have to line up. You've got the ratings themselves, and you have the league totals.
I don't know why they did that. It means that a 70 rating, for instance, might mean something very different from league to league, even with exactly the same league totals. There's no need for this, IMO.
It would be a lot better if a 70 always meant the same, relative to the league totals. By holding this steady, it becomes a lot easier to get what you are looking for, and also makes regulating development rates a lot easier. With the two scales, assessing your league dev speed is much harder, like we saw in the RLPA until we hit on a combo that seems to work for us.
The RLPA is looking for a new owner. The league is in it's 20th season, and this will be the first time in a decade (2 years real time) that we've needed to bring someone new in. In other words, it's a stable bunch. Follow the link above in post 2 if you'd like to see our Catobase almanac, or go here to see the league website.
We play OOTP 6.5, though we're currently contemplating a move to OOTP9 in the maybe not-too-distant future (we don't do anything quickly). It's a great bunch of guys, lots of fun.
