Kenny Chesney: I’d ‘Love’ To Play for Boston Red Sox

Wasn’t his “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Pants, No Problems” CD a tribute to Dick Williams or something?

“Deep down I would love to play second base for the [Boston] Red Sox,” the singer, 40, told PEOPLE Tuesday night in New York, while in town for the All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium.

“When I was little I wanted to be a baseball player. I wanted to be Pete Rose.” Although Chesney played on his high school team, he eventually diverted his attention away toward music.

“I got into music and then I realized that I didn’t want to eat, drink and sleep [baseball],” he says. “I just wanted to eat, drink and sleep.”

...These days, he counts several major league ballplayers among his best friends – including Kevin Millar from the Baltimore Orioles and Nick Swisher from the Chicago White Sox – and says they have a lot in common. “My life on tour is exactly like a baseball season. It starts in April and ends in September or the first of October,” he says. “So, their off-season is my off-season, so I get to hang out [with them].”

Deep down I would love to be the CEO of Microsoft.

I don't think you've thought this through. That job would be a lot of work. Deep down, I would love to be the spouse of the CEO of Microsoft.

I don't think you've thought this through. This means you have to sleep with the CEO of Microsoft.

Deep down, I'd love to play with Renee Zellweger.

I always heard that their marriage dissolved because Kenny "played for the other team." I guess that means Renee is a Yankees fan?

second base? Who dreams of playing second base? It's like dreaming of being a LOOGY.

I dreamt of playing 2B cause Sandberg was my favorite player as a kid.

The question is how you want to be Pete Rose and a 2B, when he played about 10 games there during your life.

In the NY papers:

"Chesney says he, not Pedroia, should play second for Boston"

Deep down, I want to be a shortstop prospect who has to move to 2B because of a lack of athleticism. Then I want to play for like 7 teams in 9 years. .. couple years in Japan and the Independent leagues...

Second baseman, country singer and stupid is no way to go through life.

I don't think you've thought this through. You just said that deep down, you'd love to be my spouse. I'll have a ham and turkey on rye, and don't talk to me until the game's over.

Fair enough.

So the greatest Red Sox 2B of Chesney's lifetime would be ... Marty Barrett?

I pretty sure that deep down Pedroia wants to record an album of... wait, country music?

I don't think even Pedroia's taste in music is that bad.
