Kenny Rogers placed on waivers, could be traded soon | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

The end is near.

Rogers is 9-11 with a 5.09 ERA in 27 starts. He has allowed opposing hitters a .312 batting average since the All-Star Game, according to STATS LLC.

When asked to assess Rogers’ performance the past month, manager Jim Leyland said, “At times, it’s a little tough for him. At other times, everything’s pretty good. But he’s always been a great-conditioned athlete. ... For the most part, he’s always ready to go. The good part about him is he’s got a way to figure things out. He can do some other things to get a hitter out.”

How many of these make him look like he hasn't mastered the art of using toilet paper?

This again?

I'm waiting for the article: Tigers 25-man roster placed on waivers, the ultimate rebuild?

C'mon, no one else can get Manny out either.

He's being squeezed by the umpires this year, and his WHIPPLE has suffered.

Here come the puns. And for any team claiming him - here come the runs. Bathroom tissue supplies must be monitored closely, indeed.

That was a charmin line, GB

But does he know when to fold 'em?

You'd think the Yankees would know better.

Uh, if both teams did, they're not getting him.

I think the Yankees should STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!

A rotation that includes Sidney Ponson and Kenny Rogers may make fans' heads explode.

Also, it adds to the possibility of a trivia question in fifty years, which reads, "What pitcher started the last game at Yankee Stadium? And no one wants that.

Are the Yanks determined to land Stephen Strasburg next June?

You can't question the math. The New York Yankees are 3-0 in postseason games started by Kenny Rogers.

As the rotation currently is, the answer is "Sidney Ponson".

But if he's back by then, and especially if the Yankees are completely out of contention by then, I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is "Joba Chamberlain"

That's OK. I'd rather see Ponson serve as the answer to the question: "What Yankee started the first game at the new Yankee Stadium?"

The last game should be started by someone shaped like a wrecking ball.

I literally burst into tears of joy after that game. Now it seems like about 50 years ago.

So what's Ed Whitson up to? Maybe Kevin Brown is available too...

Don't forget Pavano.

I didn't think there was any chance he'd be in the rotation at the end of the year.
