Koufax: It made sense for Dodgers to move away from Vero Beach

Sandy Koufax said he understands why the Dodgers are moving to Arizona after 60 years in Vero Beach.

“It’s sad to see them go,” said Koufax, the former Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher. “I have friends (in Vero Beach), but most of them are not there any more either. ... It’s just the way it works.”

Koufax also said the core group of Brooklyn fans he pitched in front of for years at Holman Stadium has faded away.

“Dodger fans from New York are no longer with us,” he said. “Most of their families are on the West Coast. It made sense (to move).”
