He may not have been up to his usual standards, but who else did the Dodgers have to match his .838 second half OPS?
The Dodger's other catcher was 40 year old Brad Ausmus. He ain't playing every day. Blake was close to being as good in the second half as the first, 114 OPS+ to 126, and a much better option than Mark Loretta. Meanwhile, Belliard hit .351 with power to earn some well deserved playing time.
Hudson really wasn't in a strong negotiating position.
