If it’s not money, and it’s not personal, then it must be pride. And with good reason, Hudson’s pride had been wounded.

From the way they go about their business, it’s clear that both Hudson and Torre have an old-school mentality.

There is little room for sit downs, conferences or complaining.

Torre has publicly said that he pulls younger players such as Clayton Kershaw and Jonathan Broxton aside when he feels necessary, but he generally leaves veteran players to deal with things in their own way.

Still, you wonder why Torre would chose letting a proud veteran such as Hudson twist in the wind over pulling him aside to explain why he was rolling with Belliard.

It wasn’t like Hudson was the only Dodger to fade a bit late in the season. Manny Ramirez was never the same player after returning from suspension, yet he was in the lineup every day. Russell Martin struggled for most of the season, Casey Blake wasn’t nearly as effective in the second half compared with the first half. Both kept their jobs.
