LA Times: Conte says Mosley took steroids knowingly

BALCO founder Victor Conte on Tuesday said former world champion boxer Shane Mosley knew “exactly and precisely what he was doing” when he engaged in a doping program before his 2003 victory over Oscar De La Hoya.

Mosley last week sued Conte for slander and libel after Conte said he was planning a new book that would “set the record straight” on Mosley’s knowledge about using the designer steroids known as “the clear” and “the cream,” and the blood-doping drug EPO.

Mosley maintains in the lawsuit that Conte told him “all of the products recommended . . . were entirely legal and appropriate.”

But Conte said Tuesday that Mosley knew he was being given steroids.

The article goes on to mention another famous athlete who denied knowingly taking steroids and fell afoul of the feds for doing so.  Quick, guess who.  (Hint: the athlete’s last name is five letters long, the second letter is “o,” the third letter is “n” and the fifth letter is “s").

And the reason I posted the article: did Conte ever say that Mosley did not take steroids/HGH? He did for Bonds, didn't he?

And if Conte's got a book coming out, it would be surprising (to me at least) that he'd sell it on the basis of telling the truth about Mosley if the book also contains truth about Bonds.

Is the 4th letter a "D". _onds? Then it must be Wonderful Monds. I'm disappointed.

I think Robert is talking about Marion Jones.

Did Carol Mosley-Braun ever take steroids?

I don't know whether Ludwig is correct (after all, how would I know whether or not Ludwig thinks what he says he thinks?), but it is true that Barry Bonds is not mentioned in the article. Marion Jones is.

I only say what other people think.

Hey stop that! Cybernanny will never let that through!

Maybe he has learned from Canseco's travails and is saving the good stuff for the sequels.

Even though he never actually failed an MLB drug test, shouldn't Selig still suspend Mosely for 50 days based on this?

I know he's not a baseball player, but I hate to think that a little technicality like that would stop Bud.

Mosley took steroids knowingly

Man, it's been a rough couple of weeks for him. First it's revealed he took part in a Nazi orgy, now this. I hope and pray that one day, when some sick demented freak googles "Nazi orgy", he'll land on BBTF.

Welcome, sick demented freaks!

I think it had more to do with the Nazi uniforms they wore.

Being a baseball blog - I immediately thought, "Dustin Moseley took roids? Hope he got his money back."

Ugh!

I tend to think it was more the part where he was speaking to the women in German-accented English and is the son of the founder of the British Union of Fascists. But other than that, yeah, what a reach!

Boxing's steroid problem was probably, if anything, even more widespread than baseball's, and boxing has been even slower to acknowledge and address it. Part of this is undoubtedly due to boxing's lengthy decline from one of America's most popular sports to its current state where it exists as an afterthought in the minds of most sports fans. An entire generation of champions, some frequently discussed as ranking in the pantheon of all-time legendary greats, will have to be considered as the details of boxing's PED abuse slowly leak out over the next decade - Roy Jones Jr, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Shane Moseley, and James Toney may be the boxing equivalent of Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmiero, and Roger Clemens, the gaudiest names with the lengthiest pedigrees, but surely there are no shortage of lesser names who will suffer from deeper scrutiny as inquiries continue.

No where in that article does it say they were wearing Nazi uniforms.

The comments section has something about women wearing black latex, other than that no mention of uniforms.

anybody have a link to the video?

From the little clips i have seen, maybe the lady is wearing a nazi jacket, but it way to hard to tell.
I do think it is a reach to call this a nazi orgy, simply because Hitler attended his dads wedding.

Yes, this Victor Conte who tells us that Shane Mosley is lying through his teeth and knew exactly what he was taking: it's the one and very same Victor Conte who tells us with a straight face that Barry Bonds didn't take anything illegal, and well, even if he actually did, sweet innocent little Barry had absolutely no idea whatsoever what it was he was ingesting.

I tell you, they can't make up guys like this character in Hollywood.

I don't mind if Tonks took steroids. Those were desperate times, and Voldemort had to be stopped!
