L.A. Times: Dodgers tap into anger about their unruly home fans (RR)

Holy Skatole! Newbomb Turk quotes too!

Many say it’s largely undeserved, and there is no disputing that security at the stadium has been up and arrests down. But even as they celebrate this season’s trip to the National League Championship Series—an unexpected run that could end with tonight’s Game 5 at the stadium—the Dodgers faithful remain blue over a perceived rise in booze-fueled hooliganism, a problem that team spokesman Charles Steinberg conceded “is not solved.”

“It is a high priority,” Steinberg said Tuesday. “It breaks your heart when the smallest of numbers seem to ruin it for some people.”

He added Dodgers owners Frank and Jamie McCourt are “focused” on ridding the stands of trouble-makers.

“It’s a family ownership and they want a family environment,” Steinberg said. “You don’t throw your hands in the air, and say, ‘Oh well?’ “

How long will take Dana Milbank to blame this on John McCain and Sarah Palin?

The hate is swelling in you now. Take your baseball weapon. Use it. I am hanging curveballs. Strike me down with it. Give in to your anger. With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant.

"Who is the real Shane Victorino?"

"GAMER!"

"WALK HIM!"

when i go, i sit in field level, and nothing untoward ever happens. but ... in every game i've been to it seems there's a fight and an expulsion in the bleachers. i don't pay attention to the upper deck, so can't speak to that.
toward the end of the season, there was also a new unruly act (sort of) that got popular: standing up, brandishing the beer in your hand, then chugging it while the section cheered. it's not such an awful thing to do in and of itself, but it strikes me as a lowering of the bar of acceptable behavior. how the stadium people could stop it short of banning alcohol, i have no idea ...

Those San Fernando Valley blonde mulleted film industry wage-slaves out to relive their past at the Drysdale Cathedral have their masculinity decimated by the mere presence of muscular Chicano men out for an evening of fun.

The crowd is mellow, the reactions are not. Veiled racism in the only place in L.A. where the latino majority mixes with the shrinking white middle class.

Violence at Dodger Stadium is only logical. Whenever the camera shows the best seats filled by Ryan Seacrest or Penny Marshall or Vince Vaughn or Larry King or Shia LaBeouf or Jon Lovitz or the sizzling cast of whatever crappo series Fox is pimping, my immediate instinct is to begin punching.

Unruly Dodger fans? in LA? Will wonders never cease. But I assume they still leave in the 7th.

If your issue is that the best seats are being filled with the see-and-be-seen crowd, I'm obliged to inform you that Penny Marshall (director of "League Of Their Own") is a legitimate hardcore baseball/sports fan.

If your issue is simply that you have to look at her, then I see your point. I doubt punching is going to fix anything, though. Try martinis. That's what she would do.

It took them a while, mostly because they're none too bright, but that big group of people who used to show up for Raiders games finally found their way down the 110.

A dodger fan ripped my wife's red sox license plate off when she went to game 3 on Sunday. I think she is still happy she went since she also got to meet and get her picture with Rob Mcelhenney from it's always sunny. I hope there isn't a 'Mac Bangs Red Sox Fan's Wife' episode.

I have no problem with hardcore baseball fans who also happen to be celebrities attending games. Penny Marshall, Stephen King, David Duchovny, hell even Ben Affleck...no reason to blame them for their fame. They love the game (as all good Americans should!) and they have a right to show up and pay for the best seat they can afford. It's the celebs who clearly don't give a #### and are showing up, as Coop Schtick said, to "see and be seen" who irk me. For example, I somehow doubt that Barbra Streisand is a baseball nut.

The Dodger Stadium crowd gave a "mixed" reaction to Barbra Streisand when she was shown on the video board. However, Brian Baumgartner of "The Office" was warmly received.

I hereby retract Penny Marshall, and double down on Ryan Seacrest.

But my favorite celebrity cameo would have to be Calista Flockhart several years ago. Not only was she front row at the big game hours away from the new laugh-out-loud season of "Ally McBeal," but she was laden with chili dogs, soda, and popcorn even while the tabloids were filled with anorexia stories. Every time the camera found her, she was taking a big bite of ballpark chow.

Haha, that's awesome. I'd love to meet any of the actors from that show, they're all hilarious.

Umm, would you prefer a "The Gang Bangs Red Sox Fan's Wife" episode? I'm actually wondering how we could work the McPoyles into that one.

She said he was really nice. She also said that when she complimented him on this season's shows that he genuinely sounded appreciative. Him and Kaitlin (my wife confirmed she is crack skinny in real life) would go get beers and no one bothered them, but when Danny Devito walked by he had to give everybody five.

Pretty off topic, but when Charlie, Rob, and Glen went to comic-con (I only went because they were showing the first episode of this season and then an open panel discussion...nothing against comic books, just not my thing) they looked truly shocked to see so many people in the audience (It was 10:30 in the morning). It was actually very interesting. I generally don't 'gush' over celebrities and only went to see the episode, but they didn't have typical stock answers and even the audiences questions weren't typical. About half-way through, though, the girls started yelling for Glen to pop his shirt off. Oh, and Charlie kept referring to Fred Savage (who was there) as Kevin Arnold. The moderator was the creator/producer of Lost and he did a good job. When he listed every topic that the show has discussed, one after the other, and then asked 'is there any topic too taboo for you guys?' before anybody could laugh the 'gang' said 'no'.

Umm, would you prefer a "The Gang Bangs Red Sox Fan's Wife" episode? I'm actually wondering how we could work the McPoyles into that one.

I originally thought about the 'gang' instead of 'mac', but mac is the 'banger' (at least in those two episodes). As far as the McPoyles, they would not bang her, as, one man with awesome pecs once said to a born smasher: "....not a member of their family, so I have that working against me".

Can I start watching this show now without catching up? Or are DVDs of previous season(s) necessary?

It's a comedy, so you don't have to watch it in order.
   21. baseclog  Posted: October 15, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2983496)
Though it isn't necessary that you see the first 3 seasons (I didn't like the first season the first time through, but now think it is hilarious as well) I think to truly appreciate it you should at least start from season 2, but season 1 and 2 are part of the same dvd set. There will be a lot of jokes that are much more funny because of previous episodes, but if you hadn't seen the previous seasons then you would either not even notice the jokes or would not think are as funny.

Edit: Disregard the above. You need to see them all to watch the transitions, character changes, the acting get better, etc... I personally think it is the best show since (and maybe better than) Arrested Development, but AD had such a short life and was never able to develop as far.

Shredder: After giving this (way too) much thought, the episode would consist of my wife and Dee being at the McPoyle's due to the heat being out at Paddys. My wife is (not in real life) oddly attracted to Margaret McPoyle, but in order to get what she wants from Margaret she needs to bang both brothers, since they won't have anybody to bang. A bunch of reasons are given why Dee is not their type. Dee is extremely offended by this, since they would rather be part of a 4 way with their own sister than have sex with her. In utter despair, and high from the Pledge fumes, Dee ends up sleeping with the Korean guy from previous episode.

P.S. Also, Charlie and the Charlie dummy move out and cannot agree on anything.

By the way, the chick that plays the sister (her name is Thesy Surface) is actually pretty hot in real life.

At least Charlie didn't keep referring to Rob as Haley Joel Osment.
