I definitely wouldn't do this. There are few things in the universe lamer than people using misplaced math to try to argue away something that actually happened.
Everyone knows how the champion is determined ahead of time. Everything above might be true, but whining about luck is lame whether it's this case, or the ball taking a bad hop or a freak injury to a star player.
1. The Mets have a very good chance of winning the World Series, because they are the best team in the NL by a margin. Check out any serious bookmaker, and they will favour the Mets, because the AL teams all have to beat each other.
2. The best five teams in MLB are 4-1 to the AL, the best ten are probably 7-3. This strongly supports the idea that the AL is a lot better than the NL.
3. The AL is only 14 teams deep: the 14th NL team is better than the 14th AL team.
4. The Mets are a good team. The Cardinals are a decent team. No-one else in the NL would have a chance of making the AL playoffs. Not even the Dodgers in the AL Worst.
Why?
Money. The AL has more, and by a big margin. It's not just the Yankees and Red Sox - Angels, White Sox, Orioles, Blue Jays, even the Tigers and the Indians aren't that short of cash.

Flip it around, and the 14 teams of the AL have collectively outperformed every NL team except the Mets in games against NL teams. The comparison has some obvious shortcomings, but I thought it was noteworthy.
