Legends from ‘82 team like what they see in the current Brewers

This is all very interesting, but at this point...shouldn’t Pete Ladd have a Section all by himself?

Yount realizes that many fans have gotten antsy as the Brewers’ lead atop the National League Central Division, once as large as 8½ games, has dwindled to 1½ games. But, considering the club hasn’t been to the playoffs since that ‘82 season, Yount isn’t sure what there is to be upset about.

“The last time I looked, they’re still in first place,” Yount said. “So, what are we all freaked out about?”

Every Sunday, the Journal Sentinel offers a look back to both the Brewers’ 1982 season as well as the Milwaukee Braves’ 1957 season. Yount noted at this stage in ‘82, his team held a 5½-game lead in the AL East.

“And we still had to win on the last day (to win the division). I don’t remember hearing anybody say that we were blowing it or that Harvey’s neck should be on the line,” said Yount, referring to manager Harvey Kuenn.

Ryan Braun's HOF Standard score is 35 already. Among active players, he's ahead of Vizquel, Rolen, Posada, Tejada and Ichiro. He's tied with Bobby Bonds, Minnie Minoso, and Sherry Magee, and ahead of Ralph Kiner. He should retire now.

One has to be careful in making assumptions about people we know only through the media, but all available evidence suggests that Robin Yount is a decent and thoughtful man, and I count myself lucky to have him as one of my hometown heroes. Imagine how someone like Mike Schmidt might have handled this question. He might have taken the opportunity to point out just how many things are wrong with this young and inconsistent team. I'll take boring old Robin any day.
