Lidge goes on disabled list

Righthander Brad Lidge was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee, retroactive to June 7, the Phillies said today.

To take his spot on the 25-man roster, the Phillies selected the contract of catcher Paul Bako from double-A Reading.

Somehow, Pujols is responsible for this.

Lidge won a WS last year and he has earned over $16MM in his career.

Pretty sure a lot of people would trade places with him in a heartbeat.

it is like this - if you are in the NL and not a cards fan, basically anything bad that happens was Uncle's fault

Damn! I wanted a piece of him this week.

And Bako always gets a big hit against the Mets.

Damn!

I feel a disturbance in The Force, as if a thousand wannabe back-up catchers cried out in agony.

3 catchers? Chris Coste can't even hit! Why the heck are the Phillies carrying him?

Somewhere, Creighton Gubanich is weeping.

Not that it answers the first question, but Bako has 2K PAs in the majors and has never put up a season as good as Coste's worst with the bat. Maybe Coste or Ruiz is nursing some minor injury? There are obviously better bench bats in the minors if that's all it's about, and at least a few random relievers they could slot in somewhere for a couple weeks if needed.

Maybe they want Bako to work with Bastardo and Happ. Or maybe he's just a few games short of qualifying for his pension, and someone in the Phils' organization is doing him a favor? Otherwise I have no idea why Bako's up.

Paul Bako is a WTF bring-up, that's for sure. I know they want Mayberry to play everyday as they think/hope they can coach him to a major league every day player level. I guess this frees up Coste to be the ace RH PH. I mean Coste is a cool story, seems like a good guy, but it's not a plus if he's your #1 RH hitter off the bench. He borders on okayish, certainly better than Bruntlett.

Coste can hit lefties pretty well.
