Longtime major league pitcher David Weathers is ready to turn the page

Natch…you don’t need a Weathers, man.

David Weathers hasn’t officially retired from major league baseball, he’s just acting that way.

Some team might come calling in June or July, desperate for a veteran pitcher who knows how to get outs at the end of a game.

Even then, Weathers, a veteran of 18 seasons in the big leagues, might not want to come back. It would have to be the right situation for Weathers to return to professional baseball.

“It would take something where I’d have a chance to win,” Weathers said Monday. “Being around my family has changed me and the way I look at things.”

...“There’s nothing I can do to ever be at the level of competition that I was in when I was wearing a major league uniform,” he said. “I was at the top of my profession, and there’s not a whole lot of softball leagues that can fill that void. The big league lifestyle? I’m not going to miss it.

“If no one calls in June or July, it’s been a good ride,” he said.

So if Delgado doesn't catch on, there will be no active Jays remaining who played for the 1992 or 1993 teams.
