Lupica: For Mark McGwire and baseball’s other steroid cheats the truth would be a hit

And buried after the McGwire bit is this gem…

This was Randy Levine’s response to that story in the Times about cracks in some of the ramps at the new Yankee Stadium:

“The New York Times are great people but they own the Boston Red Sox. They haven’t been too happy with our new stadium all year. They really don’t like the fact that it’s been so successful. They’ve been writing a lot of negative stuff.”

Really, Randy?

The story about the cracks was a Red Sox thing?

Levine made these comments, by the way, on a show called “Squawk Box.”

Just on the title alone, you have to say it’s a perfect match.

Whereas Lupica splits his time between the shows Squeak Box, The World of Whine and This Week in Moral Superiority.

I'm trying to remember the last time I read Lupica. Maybe the excuse-laden "Unlucky 7's" column he wrote when his golfing buddy's team choked in the 2007 NL East race. I'm not going to read this because I may develop some sympathy for McGwire.

From Lupica's column: "This isn't about what we didn't know in the old days, it's about what we've found out since, about all of them."

Uh huh. Translation: Lupica sure as shit doesn't want to talk about the past.

I'm still waiting for Lupica to return the money he made from that book about McGwire and Sosa's HR chase. I mean moral indignation only goes so far. Money-mouth.
