MIL Journal-Sentinel blog: Kendall still hitting 8th

Well, the pitcher hitting 8th lasted until Memorial Day weekend, at least.  Kendall is hitting .276/.360/.365 with 0 GIDP this season, with all but 5 ABs coming in the #9 spot.

Ned Yost is still going with a conventional lineup for the opener against the Braves and probably for the rest of the near future as he tries to spark something with his offense.

The team said it recently got some reports for the number crunchers and Kendall hitting 9th was actually “working,” whatever that means. But for now, they’ll scrap it.

Wouldn't it make sense to bat Kendall leadoff?

This 'experiment' or whatever it is, is about #24 on the list of Yost's biggest problems right now.

No. Weeks has equal or better OBP (in terms of true-talent) and vastly superior speed.

I'd go:

Weeks
Hart
Fielder
Braun
Cameron
Branyan/Hall
Kendall
Hardy

It's odd (dare I say, ironic) ... Kendall keeping his OBP up, thus having a fairly good batting line relative to the last couple of years, should only reinforce the strategy of hitting him 9th, at least per sabermetric principles. I thought they were Yost's rationale for originally making the move ... was it really because he though Kendall would be godawful with the bat?

I love watching Kendall prove people wrong. Rooting for him is super-fun, just like always.
