Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: Shoulder will sit Gagné indefinitely

Milwaukee Brewers closer Eric Gagné has been shut down with what he and the team called tightness and inflammation in his right shoulder. There’s no word yet on how long Gagné will be out because it depends on how the shoulder feels today and what route team physician William Raasch decides is best.
...
“It’s all in the front of the shoulder,” Gagné said. “Now we’re just waiting to see. It’s just one of those things (where) you usually warm up and it goes away, but it was getting tighter and tighter (Tuesday).

“There’s not structural damage. If it’s in the front of the shoulder, that’s always good. It’s more muscular and inflammation.”

Oh well, it's "only" $10,000,000 thrown away on guaranteed garbage! No biggie!

Back on December 7th, I said this:

ESPN says "upwards of $10 million", which makes me question Melvin's sanity if true. Gagne wouldn't be a bad gamble at a low-cost deal with a lot of incentives, but $10 million?

Not that this was exactly Nostradamus, but I'm feeling pretty smug anyway.

13 mil between Gagne and Turnbow.

This is one of the reasons Melvin isn't inclined to dump Yost. Doug knows his hands aren't clean.

So is Committee the new closer?

levski:

Mota/Torres/Shouse.

Also known as giving Ned too many choices.

And that, well, that ain't good.....

My guess is Mota pitches six days in a row, goes on the DL...

Why don't they give David Bush a shot as the closer? He was a closer in college, and he has gone from mediocre to bad to unusable as a starter. Why not try it?

How can you close with ANY of Mota, Torres or Shouse? A fossil, a LOOGY, and... Guillermo Mota? It's beyond risk-averse not to move Bush. What are you even risking?

The fossil puts up 90 good innings every year, doesn't he?

Your new closer is either going be Shouse or crab juice.

Yuck. That's disgusting. Blech. How awful. I'll take the crab juice.

Bush's last few starts have been tolerable, and they're already giving a start to Seth McClung, since Villanueva has been horrible lately.

Assistant general manager Gord Ash just told me closer Eric Gagne was diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis and received a cortisone injection to help speed the recovery process.

Gagne will rejoin the team tomorrow in Washington and will not be allowed to throw until Sunday at the earliest, but that is only if he feels 100%. If not, the Brewers will decide if they can afford to keep him out of action for a few more days

If they can't, Gagne could be placed on the DL and a roster move would have to be made to keep the bullpen at full strength. Ash said the team is going to try to avoid placing Gagne on the DL if possible.
