Teams with more of their production tied up in OBP (what Bill James called long-sequence offense) actually tend to be less consistent than teams with roughly equivalent production but with more of it tied up in SLG (short-sequence offense). Long-sequence offenses usually have more low-scoring games AND more high-scoring games than equivalent short-sequence offenses.
