MLB: K-Rod comes full circle with No. 57

As The Late Great J.J. Smuggo Mohl used to say (before a leaning stack of useless laserdiscs felled him)..."Typical Reliever Syndrome”.

“I’m getting closer and closer and closer, and honestly I’m not going to lie, I want to break it so bad,” Rodriguez said. “But I have to sit back and wait for my opportunity to come. My goal is to make it to the postseason and break that record.”

...At the time, Rodriguez was completely oblivious to the record and was unaware his jersey number would carry so much meaning as the season went along.

“I just found out this year when you guys started bringing it up,” Rodriguez said. “I didn’t even know what the record was at all. I had no clue.”

..."It doesn’t matter if you save 100 saves in a row in a season, people never are going to give you credit,” Rodriguez said. “They’re going to point out the negative things. There’s always going to be something negative about me, but I’m used to it because it’s all I hear. It’s something you can’t control. You just have to keep pitching.”

biggest non-story of the year... is there any reason for his falling k-rate? he's only 26.

He was injured at the begining of the season.. something in his achilles tendon I think.
His K/9 by month is this:
Apr: 6,94
May: 8,76
June: 9,53
Jul: 12,00
Aug: 14,73
I think he's ok

Hey look, it's Roberto Petagine!

His K-rate was why I traded him in my league. That was around 27 saves ago. I thought I was pretty clever.

The LA Times has done quite the number on Frankie throughout his career, portraying him as the arrogant, aloof Latino from the onset.

Angel fans were shocked when Rodriguez recently gave credit to Troy Percival's tutelage in a recent interview - the TIMES slant of Frankie feeling he was owed the closer's job during the years Percy was there is still fresh in many fans' minds.

He carries on like a wanker after he gets a save. That could be a start...

Every time I watch the guy pitch, I marvel at the fact that he hasn't hurt himself yet. His balance on the mound is _terrible_. He almost falls over on every other pitch. I'm no mechanics expert, but he looks like an injury waiting to happen.

And Mark Prior has perfect mechanics. They've been predicting a disastrous injury for six years now. I think he's reached the point where predicting a major injury and being right would just be dumb luck, like it already is for most pitchers.

Shredder, do you worry about him being over used before the postseason?

Records are nice, but the 2001 Mariners would trade several of those 116 wins for an equal number of postseason ones.

KNEEL BEFORE KROD!

Why the hell would I worry about that? His usage is right in line with the rest of his career to this point. He's throwing about a pitch more per inning, but I'm not sure that roughly four extra innings of pitches spread out over 65-70 IP will be his undoing.

The Angels have a nice home record, but it's not as good as Tampa's, and they haven't played well in Tampa. I worry more about them losing in the playoffs because they punted home field in order to rest someone who doesn't appear to need the rest.
