MLB Network adds Reynolds, Leiter

MLB Network today announced four new additions to its roster of on-air talent, naming baseball veterans Al Leiter and Harold Reynolds as studio analysts, as well as Trenni Kusnierek and Hazel Mae as reporters. They join Matt Vasgersian, who last week was named studio host and anchor of MLB Tonight, the live, nightly studio show that will be the signature program of the new network, and Hot Stove, a live, nightly off-season studio show. All of the on-air personalities will appear on both shows, as well as other programming across MLB Network, which will launch on January 1, 2009, in approximately 50 million homes as the largest network debut in cable history.

Tell me, if Bud Selig’s last name was Leiter, would we call him Bud Leit?

does this mean Leiter will no longer be doing color on YES?

damn it all, he was the best thing on that broadcast ...

For real, the telecasts will be completely unlistenable if he's gone.

No way would MLB network let him continue on YES. They must have blown him out of the water on salary or something. I don't know about "unlistenable", but I definitely agree that he was the best part of the broadcast.

I think Reynolds is very good on TV as well. I can't really speak for Vasco de Gama (I think of him as a video game voice), but it looks to be a strong lineup they are putting on out there.

I thought the Reynolds thing was already known. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure I know what we'd call him if his name was Bud Fuggleman.

It pretty much was. He's been working for MLB on teh internets side, so this was quite expected (if not outright announced already).

So far I must admit that I'm impressed with the talent MLB is gathering together for its new network. Vasgersian, Leiter and Reynolds together make a better team than I've seen on TV in years. If the rumors about Costas doing play-by-play are true (and if he isn't hopelessly rusty and cranky by now), this seriously inclines me to invest in getting the channel.

Now if only they would hire Nate Silver and Dave Cameron, and have them fight every Thursday night over who the bigger ######### at Baseball Prospectus is, THAT would be a great TV network.

I still like when Hazel Mae disappeared from NESN for a few months and then came back with a bigger rack and more personality.

MLB is already way ahead of Fox. I want to see what their nightly highlight show is like, because it's looking like it'll be way ahead of ESPN, too.

As someone who used to watch her in the minor leagues (Rogers SportsNet, up here in Canada), I was very happy when she left the local airwaves. She was god-awful.

However, if she had returned with a bigger rack, I MIGHT have welcomed her back.

I think I really made the Google ads on the side of the page flip out. Sorry about that.

.

I am all for women with more personality. Is there a positive correlation that a bigger rack brings this about? Count me in for bigger racks for all women then.

Can't find a Leiter man?
   17. Pete Toms Posted: November 12, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#3007837)
# 12. I recall Hazel Mae on Sportsnet as well, I'm in Ottawa. I read in SBJ weeks ago that she was headed for MLB.TV and googled her out of boredom. The first - and only - thing I noticed were her tits. Did Henry & Werner buy those or did she finance it herself? Works well for her though.

I wanted to leave the same comments at Shysterball today but didn't want to offend Craig. Glad to see the BTF crowd are pro tits.

Leiter will continue to work as an analyst on YES. I suspect that we'll see this kind of arrangement with several of the bigger name personalities; they'll continue to work for their teams, but when available, they'll do commentary for MLB.
   19. Obama Bomaye Posted: November 12, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#3007849)
I am pro tits, but anti fakes. Oh well. If they look good when covered up, I guess that's ok.
   20. Jessex Posted: November 12, 2008 at 11:28 PM (#3007867)
Has anyone seen what they're going to do the rest of the day? Will they be showing games like NFL Network? Any other shows besides the Sportscenter and Baseball Tonight knockoffs?
   21. Leroy Kincaid Posted: November 13, 2008 at 01:15 AM (#3007915)
YES broadcasts are definitely unlistenable and Leiter does nothing to change that. Harold Reynolds was useless on Baseball Tonight and is horrible doing games.
   22. Pete Toms Posted: November 13, 2008 at 02:48 AM (#3007942)
#20 - IIRC they will show some games. Offseason, I've read AFL, Caribbean World Series, "classic" games....can't recall anything else, there have been reports....

Did they outbid the Giants?
