Mlb: So, Yankee Stadium Takes This No Moving During “God Bless America"-Thing Rather Seriously

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very patriotic; I love my country. This action, however, is more than a little over the top.

Remember a little more than a year ago when George Steinbrenner, inflated with patriotic fervor, imposed a laughable rule that instructed security officials to ban anyone from “excessive movement” during the 7th inning rendition of “God Bless America.” Granted, most New Yorkers seemingly abide by it, but sometimes the system must be tested by one man’s agnosticism and patriotic indifference. Oh, and he had to piss.

Meet Bradford Campeau-Laurion, a 29-year-old man from Astoria, Queens, and a director of web production for a “major website” who made the unfortunate decision to blatantly disregard “God Bless America” and hit the head. He was dealt with swiftly and aggressively by Steinbrenner’s Red, White, And Blue Muscle. I left a message with Yankees media relations for their comments on this, but it’s probably safe to assume that they’ll only react to this if Brad here makes a colossal stink over it.

Take it to the other thread, pinko.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not patriotic at all, and I think the concept of loving a country as vast as this one seems a little silly. I also hate GBA and refuse to acknowledge it. [cue Mr. High Standards attempted ass-whupping]

A few years ago I discovered that you can sing the lyrics to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" almost perfectly to the tune of "God Bless America." That was back when ballparks were playing GBA instead of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," which is the only thing more annoying than them playing it at all. Getting to sing the lyrics to the song I wanted to hear instead made me feel much better about the whole thing.

Mr. Campeau-Laurion has weird friends. Some of them play stickball.

Still remember the weirdness of it being played up here in Toronto after 9/11. Made very little sense for us Canadians to be doing that. Yes, 9/11 was terrible but we hardly stand for, say, a song honouring India whenever something bad happens there. Yes, many players are from the USA and yes, baseball more or less started there but c'mon. Forced patriotism is the opposite of what the USA is supposed to be - a land where all are free to be who they are and to think how they want to think without fear of persecution.

Damn, did 'Biz' show up in the Mitchell report. A 2096 OPS seems a mite suspicious.

Coming up next: Hank Steinbrenner will hand out prayer rugs, and everyone will prostrate themselves toward the Yankee shrine in the outfield. Those who do not participate will be beheaded.

It is fun the sing the old Boy Scout classic, God Bless My Underwear also. When some ninny complains, you have a free pass to pummel him because anyone who hates the Boy Scouts hates America.
