MLB: Wang injures right foot against Astros

Yankees right-hander Chien-Ming Wang was removed from Sunday’s game after suffering an apparent injury to his right foot while running the bases at Minute Maid Park.

With New York batting in the sixth inning, Wang was waved home on Derek Jeter’s two-run single to right field. Wang scored but was hobbled as he rounded third base, hopping home and pointing to his right foot but grabbing at his right knee.

Robinson Cano scored ahead of Wang on the play and immediately waved to the dugout, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi and trainer Steve Donohue came out to help Wang off the field and down the dugout steps.

Wang reached base on a fielder’s choice groundout earlier in the inning facing Astros right-hander Roy Oswalt. Coming into the game with a 7-2 record and a 4.30 ERA, Wang had hurled five scoreless innings against the Astros, scattering six hits while walking none and striking out three.

Enough of this Wang talk:

What's going on with this game? Yahoo has the score 24-0 New York, while MLB.com has it 13-0 (despite showing the Astros scoring in 3 different innings).

Am I drunk? I don't think I'm drunk.

The Yankees won 13-0. I think both sites are having some major issues lately, because either yesterday or the day before they were showing all homers as inside-the-park.

I thought it was really obvious - I think Wang hurt himself when he went awkwardly standing up into second base, instead of sliding. He hit the bag with his right foot, and it looked way too hard.

yeah, they were showing carlos lee (???!!!) as hitting an inside the parker yesterday

i mean i went back to look because i could have sworn that the ball went into the crawford boxes and anyway, no matter WHERE the ball was hit no WAY could he have hit an inside the parker

They won't be sure until Chien-Ming Wang exits the Carl Pavano Memorial MRI tube tomorrow and the test is examined, but there is a strong belief in the Yankees New York Yankees' universe that Chien-Ming Wang's season could be over due to a Lisfranc fracture in his right foot.

If Wang has a Lisfranc fracture (a fracture and dislocation of mid-foot bones on top of the foot) he could require surgery that would finish his season. Brian Bruney suffered the same injury on April 22, opted not to have surgery and has no definitive return date.

If Wang has a Lisfranc fracture (a fracture and dislocation of mid-foot bones on top of the foot) he could require surgery that would finish his season. Brian Bruney suffered the same injury on April 22, opted not to have surgery and has no definitive return date.

Okay, I hope it isn't that, even though I'm a supporter of a team who will be directly competing with the Yankees. However, assuming that Wang is out for the season, does this turn the Yankees into sellers?

Yankees reload, Yankees never rebuild. My guess is they slot the remaining 2/3rds of their untouchable troika of young pitchers in the rotation.

I had never heard of a Lisfranc injury before Bruney's injury. Apparently, they're not looking to operate for Wang's injury, either. Does anyone know how Bruney is doing? ESPN says six weeks in a cast for Wang, if Bruney is on the same program, he should be out of his cast, no?
