MLB: Rays to host ‘Picnic in the Park’

Ah, yes Mr. Dukes...we have reserved the William Holden picnic table just for you.

The Rays will host a “Picnic in the Park” on Friday, Nov. 9 at 11:45 a.m. ET at Gaslight Park in downtown Tampa to celebrate the launch of the team’s new name, colors, uniforms and logo.

At least 15 Rays players along with manager Joe Maddon will be on hand to sign autographs at the event that is free to the public. Hot dogs, sodas, water, peanuts and Cracker Jacks will also be provided by the team at no charge.

Rays radio broadcasters Dave Wills and Andy Freed will serve as emcees for the event that will include the Rays Street Team and Raymond as part of the celebration. In addition, the team will give away T-shirts featuring the Rays’ new look to selected fans.

I'm glad they're getting a new look. The D-Backs' new logo, with their southwestern color scheme and their awesome arm patch now have a uniform design to be proud of. I'm really eager to see what the Rays have come up with.

sorry, the "cool logo" idea will not sell more tickets, will not make a better team, and will not make me like the crap they keep putting out on the field. change your name every year if you like (which will probably happen as this will probably be the first team to get corporate naming rights, as in the Raymond James Rays). and the d-backs new logo is not visually appealing. it looks like it should be a logo for a motorcross team, or some kind of mountain bike. in fact, i bet mongoose bikes is kicking themselves that they didn't come up with it first.

build a better baseball team, and after, oh, say 30 years or so, then you can try out a new logo. i hate this team because it's NEVER about baseball. it's about getting a few more saps to fork over some cash.

This can only be a step in the right direction!

Um, did anybody else notice the subtitle for the MLB story? "Digs" aren't uniforms. Is that a mistake?

Piehole,

You don't think it's a good idea to reach out to your customers when you realize that yeah, your product's been kinda crappy?

Unlike the Pirates, who still haven't found their own ass, after 15 years of searching, the Rays at least seem to have a clue that the on-field product doesn't live up to expectations.

Smart idea by the Rays.
I don't like it. I want the other teams in the Red Sox's division to be as dumb as possible. Are we sure there's no way Angelos could own the Tampa franchise at the same time?

I'm still holding out for Cuban to buy the Pirates. He might hire those 5 guys from Queer Eye to design a new, visually appealing logo.

Clearly you're forgetting Tampa Bay history.
