MLB.com: Dodgers drop finale as Kershaw falters

Just another night in the NL West.  This weekend’s Dodger/D’backs series will be a classic, I’m sure.

The Dodgers’ disastrous trip back east ended mercilessly on Thursday night with an 11-2 blowout loss at the hands of the last-place Nationals, the club’s seventh straight defeat on this trip to Philadelphia and Washington and 10th of 12 overall.

Three batters in, Los Angeles looked to be headed for a better fate when new No. 3 hitter Manny Ramirez drilled a two-run homer to left, but the Dodgers only collected three more hits the rest of the game.

Clayton Kershaw (2-5) was hit hard for his second straight start, yielding five runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Cristian Guzman hit for the cycle tonight as well. First time for the Nats since Brad Wilkerson did it back in the Nats' second-ever game in April 2005.

there's a lot of baseball to be played, but that dodgers-cards matchup in the playoffs that i was hoping for doesn't look too good.

Even if the Dodgers sweep the Dbacks in AZ this weekend, they'd still be half a game back (one game back in the loss column).

There's no way to recover from getting swept by the Nationals. They are truly atrocious.

There's also no way to recover from getting swept by the Padres. So let's see who wins

Swept by the Natspos?

Not a good year for Torre's coaching tree, eh?

edit. guess I owe Russlan half a coke.

I'm calling a double-sweep in Chase this weekend: 3 games, 6 losses, 0 wins.

He's certainly not an ace yet, but man, Kershaw is fun to watch, even when he's getting hammered. He's got the 95-mph fastball, and that curveball is totally non-heinous, and he's also mixing in what I think is a low-80s changeup. If he can perfect that changeup, and command his stuff a little better, he'll be a real force. And that's not that tall of an order, considering that the guy is only 20.

So far I've enjoyed watching him more than any of the ultra-hyped Joba/Buchholz/Kennedy/Hughes types. Though I suppose he's performed much better than (most of) them. And I'm biased.

Yeah, it must be satisfying to watch a completely under-the-radar, hype-free player like Kershaw come from out of nowhere and blossom to the surprise of professional baseball analysts who barely mentioned him or even knew his name because they were so unaware of his presence and never talked about him.

If there's a way to pull off a double forfeit (and three of them in a row), they'll give it their best shot!

While I enjoy and understand your snarkiness, DKDC, at the beginning of this season, how many articles were about any of those pitchers, compared to Kershaw? I know Kershaw has been hyped to hell, but it still seems surprising, to me, that he's been more successful so far this season than most of his elders.

But anyway. I play in an AL-only stat league, so I tended to hear more about those guys anyway. That probably skewed my perceptions.

I'm just having fun, but I recall the Kershaw hype being pretty spectacular, particularly after a few spring training appearances.

Too much wheatgrass.

Tuque, does "non-heinous" mean that it doesn't suck or that it isn't nasty/filthy/disgusting?

It would make sense either way, given that the ultimate compliment to a pitcher is to call him a bad name.

You are aware that most publications had Kershaw as one of the 5-10 best prospects in baseball coming into the year, aren't you? And what about the Koufax comparisons made during Spring Training?
