MLB.com: Guillen proudly dons new Favre jersey

Don’t worry Packer fans, Jose Guillen has your backs

Jose Guillen was the first kid on his block to have the hottest item of the day—a Brett Favre New York Jets jersey.

Guillen proudly donned a No. 4 white jersey trimmed in Jets green with “FAVRE” on the back in the Royals’ clubhouse before batting practice Friday.

“I’m a Steelers fan, but I’m a big Brett Favre fan,” Guillen declared.

But he sounded more like a Packers fan.

“We’re going to run that GM out of you-know-where, Green Bay,” Guillen announced to anyone within hearing range. “One-and-4, 1-and-5 he’s going to be out the door. Running a legend like that out of town. He better be 100 percent sure that kid’s [Aaron Rodgers] going to come through and do his job.”

Shockingly, Guillen sounds like an obnoxious jerk even when discussing football.

I guess Ron Mexico is out of the picture for now ...

I've wasted too many words on the Favre saga to drag the mess to BTF, but screw Guillen. If you think the Packers overperformed last year and are due to fall back to earth, as I do, then getting rid of a 38 year old quarterback makes no difference. If the Packers youth movement is the key and they are super-talented, far and above anyone else in the division (as many here in WI seem to believe) then they should make the playoffs no matter who is behind center. The next arguement is that we'll need Favre to make it to the SuperBowl from that point, but as I recall it hasn't made a difference for a decade now.

Why is this tagged for the White Sox? Wrong Guillen?

I'm sure Brett Favre will be as fondly remembered in the Meadowlands as Joe Montana is in Kansas City, or Johnny Unitas is in San Diego, or Joe Namath is in L.A.

Montana was at least productive in KC. How about Ronnie Lott on the Jets, Emmitt Smith on the Cardinals, Eric Dickerson on the Raiders and Falcons, Tony Dorsett on the Broncos...

The Chiefs had a productive year from Montana (aside from 4 or 5 hamstring injuries) and a few more productive years from Marcus Allen.

But if it weren't for friggin Buffalo, we could have had that Super Bowl

Matt Gutierrez is the third string QB for the Patriots, but probably will be cut.

The queston is, will this be more like Jerry Rice with the Raiders, Jerry Rice with the Seahawks, or Jerry Rice with the Broncos?
   20. Dr Love Posted: August 11, 2008 at 12:36 PM (#2898306)
It's already better than Jim Brown with the Raiders.

I thought he was Samoan.

Hispanic Quarterback in the NFL?

Jeff Garcia? And if so, he's a perhaps a member of two minority groups, at
least according to T. O., right?
