MLB.com: Livan’s rough debut adds to frustration

The last-place Padres slammed Colorado, 16-7, in front of 45,660 at Coors Field on Sunday to take the rubber game of the three-game series.
...
When the Rockies acquired Hernandez from the Twins off waivers earlier this week, they believed he would be a significant upgrade over struggling pitcher Kip Wells, who was designated for assignment on Sunday. It now appears to have been a lateral move.

Hernandez, who hadn’t pitched to live batters since July 30, was sluggish from the start. The Padres’ first four batters all came around to score in the 32-pitch first. Hernandez (0-1) gave up five more runs off two towering home runs in the third before being pulled.

A chorus of boos taunted Hernandez as he exited for the dugout. In 2 2/3 innings, the former World Series MVP gave up nine runs on seven hits and walked four.

“There’s no excuses,” Hernandez said. “I’ve never made an excuse in my career, but it’s difficult. I haven’t pitched for like 12 days. I tried to throw a strike, and I left a lot of pitches on the top of the plate.”

The Rockies fans are already lovin’ Livan.

I think I was in HS the last time Livan Hernandez tried to throw a strike.

I wonder if this is the end for the Hernandez brothers. Duque could probably get a NRI if he wanted considering how well he pitched last season for the Mets but if Livan spends the next two months getting beat up, I don't think he'll get many offers. I wouldn't be surprised if neither was interested in earning a spot on a roster.

They get the Internet in Colorado, right? They can look up baseball-reference.com in Colorado, can't they? I mean, why on earth would you be surprised at Livan Hernandez allowing runs at this point?

Livan's stats at Coors Field

6.50 ERA, 81 2/3 IP, 11 HRs given up, 33 Ks/25 walks

THIS CANNOT BACKFIRE ON THE ROCKIES AT ALL

Let me change those stats

7.26 ERA, 84 1/3 IP, 13 HRs given up, 34 Ks/29 walks

Yep.. this is working out as expected

The Rockies are expecting that Livan will re-build his value over the rest of the season and become a type A free agent. Two draft picks, baby.

Geez, blame a guy for trying? Why not parade your moron GM out there for an inning and boo him instead?
