MLB.com: Rays take series behind [Edwin] Jackson

[Edwin Jackson] pitched nearly a carbon copy of Matt Garza’s 7 2/3 shutout innings on Wednesday, as Jackson gave the Rays seven strong frames of one-run baseball.

Mirror images aside, Thursday’s outcome—a 3-2 series-clinching victory over the Blue Jays—was all Jackson. The young right-hander has now won six of his last seven starts, picking up a career-high 11th win en route to a franchise-first 81st victory this season.

The win—coupled with Boston’s loss—extends the Rays’ lead atop the American League East to 4 1/2 games over the Red Sox. Tampa Bay also improves to 11-0-1 in series play since the All-Star break.

Up to 14,039 tonight.  I don’t know if that’ll be enough for the team to cancel that message they sent to Katrina and the Waves’ management, though.

Dear Ned Colletti: Bite me.

Well, let's see: Edwin Jackson became Danys Baez. Then Danys Baez became Wilson Betemit. (Hmm... not too bad if it had stopped there.) Then Wilson Betemit became Scott Proctor. Proctor had a 2008 WHIP somewhere above 1.8, and last appeared in late June - where is he now, anyway?

Tied up in Joe Torre's basement.

I thought he had enrolled in the Federal Witness Relocation program to get away from Torre, actually.

Actually, it's both. The FWR just isn't what it used to be, what with the budget and, uh, everything.

Jackson has had pretty mediocre peripheral stats this year despite the pretty ERA and record. I would be fairly surprised if he isn't traded this off-season to make room in their rotation for Wade Davis or David Price.

#6 -- I know, I know. I'm just rooting for him because in general, Ned has been pretty damn squandiferous with the minor league talent and it hasn't really bought the Dodgers that much. In the case of Jackson, it bought them a season of mediocrity from two guys, one of whom is out of baseball (Lance Carter), and the other of whom should be if he isn't (Danys Baez).

14,000 at the game last night. When are the fans going to start paying attention to this team?

The rest of their games should have pretty good crowds. Probably a fair turnout this weekend against the Orioles, then good numbers against the Yankees, great numbers against the Red Sox and good numbers against the Twins.
