I think I spoke too soon.
It really deserves a bump.
I hated Church at first, but grew to like him. This trade is just generally hilarious.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Mets fans, you have my sympathies.
The temptation to make a tasteless 9/11 joke is strong.
My, oh my what a wonderful day!
Plenty of sunshine heading my way
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Mister Bluebird on my shoulder
It's the truth, it's actch'll
Ev'rything is satisfactch'll
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Wonderful feeling, wonderful day!
Hojo says he can fix Frenchy in 10 minutes.
edit: owe lassus a coke
Maybe I'm not as clever as I seem to believe.
Does he mean "fix" in the Bob Barker way- that seems like it's a little extreme.
Trading for, say, Garret Anderson would have destroyed me utterly, and brought out an endless stream of depression and rage. I'm bummed primarily because it seems like Church is better, and he's been great defensively in the outfield, even over the last couple days showing it off. THAT annoys me. Really, Church, ESPECIALLY since the head injury, hasn't been all that, so I don't see the big deal there.
But in general, really, this could be a lot worse, because at least it's funny. If it BENDS, it's comedy, and this trade is utterly bent.
You think you know suck now, just wait until you get a look at Frenchy on a daily basis. A Church/Diaz platoon will do just fine. One more outfielder to go...
Otherwise, *sobs*
Does he mean "fix" in the Bob Barker way- that seems like it's a little extreme.
Not really, when you consider how bad he is. In addition to that, I think his home should be burned down and the ground salted so nothing ever grows there again.
There's suck and then there's Frenchy.
I've watched him play. He's one of the worst hitters I've ever seen. That's not hyperbole, he is in a whole other level. To give up ANYTHING to get Francoeur onto your team, and that includes a roster spot, is completely idiotic and shows that you don't have a clue.

Ryan Church 2008 WAR: 1.0

After checking the previous self-immolation thread, I have to ask, wouldn't a tasteless Cory Lidle joke fit better?
Are there any tasteful ones?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
And really, he can't even do that. You'd be surprised by the breadth of things he can't do.
that's why he didn't put it on the scoreboard
Our long national nightmare has ended.
which nation? us or France?
Ryan Church has a career BA of .273 and is hitting .280 this year. Francoeur is a career .266 hitter who's batting .250 this year and hit .239 last year. It doesn't take advanced sabermetrics to notice that Church is the better hitter.
He'll eventually be replaced by Hank Aaron XXIV and Turanga Leela.
And really, he can't even do that. You'd be surprised by the breadth of things he can't do.
so you're saying he's a (-5) tool guy
I'd wonder how much Red Bull and coke Ron Darling has to do before offering up something like a positive take on this trade. He's about the only intelligent person in that booth.
How he can say this with a straight face, I don't know.
"Brainstorming in the office yesterday... John Rico - "Hey, what about this?"
I want to run this John Rico out of town. If your front office guys are brainstorming, and the guy you come up with is Jeff Francoeur, then your front office guys are stupid.
"If you look at the number of games he plays, over 150 every year..."
Uh, Omar, is this actually a good thing? If we can use Francouer's body parts to transplant into Reyes/Beltran/Delgado, then yes, this may be useful.
Says Bart Hubbach: The #Mets also sent cash to the #Braves in the Ryan Church-Jeff Francoeur trade.
Friday afternoon at the office, they're relaxing with a couple of drinks when someone gets an idea: "Let's make crank calls to the other front offices". And then one thing led to another.
If anyone ever wondered why the old adage about not trading in your division exists, this is why- there's too much risk your GM will #### up spectacularly and it will come right back and bite you. That said, these things often work themselves out- maybe Frenchy provides David Wright the secret tip that restores Wrght's homerun swing.
This is sad. Very sad.
If that's the case, I suspect the discussion went something like this:
John Rico to Mets staff: "Hey, what about this?"
Minyana to Frank Wren: "What about Francoeur for...
Wren: "DONE!"
Minyana: "..Church."
See, once again, yes, Church isn't Kazmir, but holy ####, the level of stupidity to do something like this. It's unholy.
As Lassus notes, at least it is funny.
That's the thing about Frenchy, he doesn't just suck, he sucks in tremendous volume. He never misses a day of sucking. He's the Costco of suck.
Maybe we could trade Frenchie for Milledge?
6 weeks of .355/.375/.555 and Omar is a genius.
Otherwise, a whole bunch of law students just heard their teacher randomly spout a long string of expletives.
No. Now you know what it must feel like when someone finds out they have herpes from a national news broadcast, while sitting on the couch next to their mom.
Then you obviously never had to deal with herpes. It's definitely not as funny as this trade.

Sorry, there was confusion here based on Omar Minaya's garbled comment. Cash is coming to the #Mets in the deal.
"He likes a lot of them. His teammates say that they can't count how many times they have caught Jeff playing "Guess Who?" or "Hungry Hungry Hippos" on the floor of the clubhouse. He also like games that he makes up in his head and where the only player is himself. With this amount of games being played, Jeff is without a doubt a positive value for this organization."
Francoeur has upside the way Dye had upside when we ditched him. He might make a late-career resurgence, but to be honest, he also might not be in MLB long enough to get there.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!
My
weekendyear has been made! Drinks are on me tonight, boys!It is when a Mets fan gets it, which is approximately every 20 seconds.
I thought Amazin' Avenue was playing a sick, sick joke on its readers. Instead it was Minaya on Mets fans.
And Pagan is also a better player than Francoeur. Holy ####.
1) Ryan Church has gotten some of the worst luck with regards to being accidentally snubbed or whatever you want to call it as any major leaguer I can think of.
2) For everyone, and I'll even admit this included me even if I didn't post anything, that ridiculed the notion brought up hither and yon a few weeks ago that the Braves should hold on to Frenchy to trade him for something, the people who said those things now have their response.
A .653 OPS in 650+ plate appearances last year.
I was trying to be positive for our pained Mets brethren
