Money, knee may be key factors in Manny Ramirez drama - BostonHerald.com

Another article mentions that Manny would want to be a free agent at the end of the year if he is traded. That point combined with the following tidbit makes sense.

You have the player, the club and two agents who have a fairly substantial stake in what happens between the first two entities. The latter might add up to nothing but a subtle subplot, but it is one that must be mentioned.

According to a person familiar with Ramirez’ situation, the left fielder’s agent, Scott Boras, contacted his client yesterday for the first time since the latest rift between the player and the Sox developed last week. Boras updated Ramirez on potential trade destinations since he had talked with the club since it said it was willing to deal him.

A group that has kept a keen eye on how Boras interacts with Ramirez during these days is the Legacy Sports Group, the player’s former representation. If the Sox, or whichever team trades for him, picks up Ramirez’ $20 million option, Legacy garners the five percent (or cool $1 million), while Boras works for free until another deal is made.

Would the world implode if Brett Favre and Manny Ramirez were in the same location at the same time?

My guess the implosion would start in Bristol CT.

Manny should spend less time on the internet during Red Sox pitching changes.

Is that what you were looking for?

This is the first article posted here that lays out all the known facts in a calm manner.

So apparently all this started because Boras convinced Manny that he could get 4/100 mil on the open market this winter.
Does anybody think this is possible?
Even Boras's magic power shouldn't stretch that far.

Sox officials did not comment last night when asked about the alleged tendinitis diagnosis, reiterating Epstein’s pledge not to discuss the Ramirez situation on or off the record.

Except, of course, when they leaked his MRI results.

Hell yeah, it's possible. Andruw Jones got 2/$36M looking out of shape and coming off a terrible year. Barry Zito got an insane contract. There is a crazy, desperate GM out there somewhere who will throw a ton of money at Manny Ramirez. Manny could probably put up 120-140 OPS+ for a few more years. That's worth a lot, even if he's really a DH.

As long as Bill Bavasi has a job anything is possible.

Ned Colletti is still a GM.

Ned Colletti is still a GM.

Colletti is already trying to bury the Jones, Pierre, and Garciaparra deals. I doubt he'll be too free with the checkbook this offseason.
