MPR News: A walking tour of Target Field

The new Target Field, soon to be home to the Minnesota Twins, is still under construction but very close to completion. MPR producer Jim Bickal took a walking tour of the facility and put together this walking tour of some of the field’s more interesting highlights.

I think it would be hysterical if all stadium employees had to wear the same colored outfits they have at the retail Target.

Best Halloween costume I saw this year: A Trader Joe's cashier wearing a Wal-Mart uniform.

How the hell do these stadiums get built with obstructed views from the seats. Seeing as how that's basically #1 on the list of a fan, how hard can it possibly be to avoid this?

I like the art made from horizontal pieces of wood, and the giant thing over the outfield with the old-timey logo of two cartoon guys standing in front of the state of Minnesota. Like the Mets' giant apple, but cool.

Where will they keep the snowplows, snowblowers and other groundskeeping equipment?

That overhang in right field will be the place of many, many interference calls.

Looks great. The field looks so small. The Twins need to get some more groundball pitchers.

The Pohlads can afford any size garage they want.

It depends. It has been between 40 and 60 degrees here in the past two weeks. There hasn't been any snow yet.

Usually the first major lasting snowfall happens around now. The last of the snow is generally around the end of March. April is nasty here, but mostly because the weather varies so much. If it snows it usually doesn't stay around.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: 95% of game-postponing weather issues with the new field will be due to severe weather in the summer. But primates who don't live here and have never been here know better, so don't take my word for it.

EDIT: By here I mean the Metro Area, where the field is, not the entire state.

Is the stadium in Minneapolis, St. Paul, or the suburbs?
   15. CFiJ Posted: November 16, 2009 at 01:31 AM (#3388305)
Just north of downtown Minneapolis. The skyline should be visible from the park.

As a sometime resident of St. Paul and Ramsey County, I would like to thank the residents of Hennepin County for footing the bill of this new outdoor stadium, which I shall enjoy when I visit family this summer!

Yeah, it is small. About the size of the average field here in Japan. Wrigley Field-type power alleys and Minute Maid Park-type corners. The ball will be jumping in the summer, but the stadium will probably play more neutral in the early and late months.

if you don't want any obstructed view, prepare to sit further away from the field, and round out the outfield fences. I agree you don't want obstruction, but I'd rather be closer and trade off some obstruction.

It's a tiny piece of land, squeezed between 2 rail lines, a freeway, and a parking ramp. I still think they are shy of 40,000 seats squeezed in there, even with the obstructed view. If they wanted to build a stadium with only good views, they couldn't have built it there, which means it probably wouldn't have been built at all..

FWIW, the outfield dimensions/walls are very close to the Metrodome's....foul territory is much smaller, though. But yeah, with the summer heat, or even a decent breeze blowing out in the colder months, there will be a lot of balls taking flying out of there.

Purely anecdotal experience.

My wife and were waiting for the shuttle bus from the Metrodome back to the hotel for a night game in the first week of August. Both of us were saying - Holy s--- it's cold, I'm glad we were in a dome for the last three hours. It was probably in the 50s F.

I'm gonna guess this is probably an inappropriate public display of affection. Probably NSFW.

No proposals on the hi-def scoreboard?
