National Post: Full speed ahead for Eckstein

“race at full throttle, “blond hair bouncing in the sunshine”, “swallows X-48 Morz Petro-Thuggers giving him Ulthoon-like powers” (ok, I made that last one up)...it can only be, David Eckstein.

The only Blue Jay on the field would pause occasionally to chat with a Phils’ player or coach, old acquaintances in baseball’s ubiquitous social web. Then he would take a lead off first base and, at the crack of the bat, race at full throttle to third, his blond hair bouncing in the sunshine.

David Eckstein is just about ready to play ball again.

He had come out early to test his recovering hip flexor, the muscle on his right side that he injured May 6 as he dived for a bloop hit in short left field.

On Sunday, the Jays shortstop will fly to Dunedin, Fla., where he is scheduled to play rehab games on Monday and Tuesday. If that goes well, he’ll return to Toronto for a Wednesday workout, then start at shortstop on Thursday, the first day he is eligible to come off the disabled list.
