Nats have George “The Animal” Steele visit clubhouse

From Johnson tore muscle to Tor Johnson muscle!

The Nationals acted as if they were at Wrestlemania late Monday morning. They couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw wrestling great George “The Animal” Steele in their locker room.

It didn’t matter that Steele wasn’t wearing his black singlet, eating a turnbuckle, didn’t have a green tongue or his hair sticking out of his back. To the players, he is a wrestling giant, who was wearing street clothes and speaking perfect English. The Animal could barely speak two words during his heyday.

First baseman Dmitri Young wanted to know Steele’s life story. Young found out that Steele used Chloraseptic for his green tongue. “To meet George ‘The Animal’ Steele, it’s like, ‘Wow,’ he is in great shape,” said Young, who admitted to being a die-hard wrestling fan.

Paul Lo Duca walked in the locker room and talked to Steele about eating the turnbuckles. Like a shy kid, first baseman Nick Johnson walked near Steele, who already knows what kind of player Johnson is.

“You’re a first baseman,” Steele said. “You’re a pretty good hitter.”

George "The Animal" Steele was the best thing Wrestling has ever had in my lifetime. He was priceless.

I guess he would be in great shape compared to Young.

The late Walter Hudson was in great shape compared to Young.

One of the best moments of my life was having my picture taken with Sgt. Slaughter and George "the Animal" Steele. In the photograph, Sgt. Slaughter is choking me and Mr. Steele is winding up for a chair shot to the back of my head.

Priceless.

My goodness, I would have thought "The Animal" was 20 years dead. He was great entertainment.
DIY, that sounds like one great photo.

Fortunately ol' George was from a generation where the top stars weren't keeling over in ther 40s. More of today's juiced-up 'rasslin stars should drop the needle and grow out their back hair.

After reading about George 'The Animal' Steele, I decided to look up whatever happened to his one time love interest: Miss Elizabeth. I was angered to find out that she got beat up by Lex Luger and then she dropped dead. Truly stunning the way folks are dropping dead in that industry. There must have been some G.G. Allin caliber partying going on in the industry.

While they had him in the clubhouse, I hope they checked out his fastball.

I'm not positive, but Miss Elizabeth could very well have been my first boyhood crush when she was with the Macho Man. She had it going on.

Should I take that to mean a cycle or three of Winstrol or Deca would get rid of my back hair? Cuz if it would, I'm on the juice right now.

If Nomar Garciaparra shaved his head and dyed his tongue green, could anyone tell the difference between his between-pitch ablutions and George "the Animal" Steele's ring technique?

Surprisingly, Jeff Torborg was not involved in this at all.

The best Tor Johnson. The only Tor Johnson, but still the best.

She had it going on.

She sure could help pitch a tent in the ol' Speedo.

Big Regards

I saw George Steele wrestle Victor Rivera at Fenway Park. This was Steele's first go-round in the WWWF. After Steel beat Rivera, he was elevated to the top heel in the promotion, wrestling a series of matches against Bruno Sammartino (the first series of many to follow).

On that card, Bruno beat Killer Kowalski, in a "stretcher match". The loser was supposed to be carried to the dressing room on a stretcher, but Kowalski only allowed himself to get carried from the ring (which was around second base) to the third base dugout, when he rolled off and walked down the dugout steps. What a ripoff!

#16 comes up with a brilliant Bela reference. I think I recall that George was an English teacher and public speaking lecturer.
