Nats Trade Belliard To Dodgers

The Nationals traded second baseman Ronnie Belliard to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon for minor league pitcher Luis Garcia and a player to be named later. Garcia, at the time of the deal, was pitching for Class A Great Lakes of the Midwest League.

3.49 FIP at Low-A, but is already 22. Looks like a relief prospect.

Infield depth for September?
In August (60 at-bats in 14 starts), Belli was hitting 367/406/600/1006.

There'd been rumors, but besides the small cost in trade, this means somebody must be taken off of the 40 man roster - I'm guessing Repko. Not a big deal, except that somebody else will need to be taken off if they want to activate Mientkiewicz off of the 60 day dl - which they will.

Shouldn't that just be Loretta? No reason to keep him around.

Dodgers don't usually DFA somebody that they own money too. The only time they did was with Dewlyn Young and that was to facilitate a trade to Pittsburgh. Of course, Mientkiewicz got hurt a week later, and the dodgers been missing a good bench bat ever since.

akrasian, they might just do the old 60 day DL to a minor league player who isn't going to be called up. Like Jesus Castillo, who's 25 years old, and not ready at all.

I won't miss the overweight, sulking half-asser.

Just wanted to note that there were a spate of stories around a week ago about how the Dodgers were being overhauled by Colorado.

Not so much now.

Loretta is the right handed "hitter" off of the bench.

Surprised he's still in the league. Playing for Washington is like being in the witness protection program.

Now the Dodgers have Manny and "little Manny" or whatever he's sometimes called.

Yeah, I think the correct term is right-handed batter.

Isn't the rule that you can't put players who were injured in minors on major league DL (that is, if player who is on 40-men and is set for minors is injured before the final rosters are set in spring, you can put him on 60-day DL, but if he is playing in minors, you can't)?
