Newsday: Clemens, McNamee have ‘emotional’ phone talk

Psst...Bri, the “Lucy Does a TV Commercial” episode is on tonight. Do yourself a favor and catch it.

In a surprising twist to their public war of words, Roger Clemens and his former trainer, Brian McNamee, spoke by telephone Friday night, Newsday has learned. It was their first contact since the Mitchell Report was released Dec. 13, and a person close to the situation described the hourlong conversation between the longtime friends as “emotional.”

It is unclear whether Clemens or McNamee initiated the call, and attempts to reach representatives for both of them Saturday night were unsuccessful. Clemens and McNamee have been friends since 1998, when the two were together on the Blue Jays, and it was Clemens who got McNamee hired by the Yankees after he was obtained from Toronto at the start of the 1999 season.

I don't get how they would know this unless either Clemens or McNamee leaked it. I would guess McNamee in order to make Clemens look desperate.

Or if they were in the room when the call was made.

Or if they used Enestine's operator services: "One ringy dingy, two ringy dingy... A gracious good morning to you ... Have I reached the party to whom I am speaking?"

yo... congressional hearings coming up... things are getting very, very serious... and dangerous for roger. he has to sound out his former trainer as to possibilities of burying the hatchet, smoking the peace pipe, letting bygones be bygones and coordinating a strategy whereby testimony in congress will not send one or the other to jail and forever ruin reputations.

wait bardos are you saying that Clemens was a stoner too?

Obviously, Clemens has run out of steroids, and needs a brotha to hook him up.

"I wish I knew how to quit you!"

That was exactly what I was thinking, too. When I think "emotional" I just can't help but imagine Clemens lying on his bed, weeping into his cell phone.

With Clemen's cell coverage, I'm sure the call was dropped in the middle of talking....who knows what either one was really saying. "Ok, Brian, tell me exactly what you are going to tell Congress."....silence....."Great, you won't say a thing.....[aside]Hey guys, I'm off the hook!"

Primey for #10.
A person familiar with the situation said Saturday that Novitzky, like many others intrigued by the Mitchell Report, has turned his focus toward Clemens in the wake of the verbal sparring between Clemens and McNamee.

The Inspector Javert of the IRS is now turning his baleful eye towards Clemens, so at least he has that going for him now.

Seems a little late to put that horse back in the barn.

But my advice to Roger is simple and straightforward: the truth shall set you free.

Doesn't anybody ever learn anything from a Coen Brothers movie?

"All I Really Need To Know, I Learned From The Coen Brothers". Got potential, that.

Mcnamee: I'm not recanting, Roger.
