NJ.com - BREAKING NEWS: Delgado’s agent is insane

From Dan Graziano’s Blog…

Sloane wrote back at 12:40 p.m.:

“Apologize this retard, he’s making 16 this year WITH an option for next year @ 16 or a buyout @ 4. Nice research by you but then I guess that whole concept of fact finding escapes you huh? They didn’t teach that on the short bus did they?”

Seriously. Not making this up. I cut-and-pasted it.

Couple of thoughts here:

1. I don’t respond when readers call me names, but I’m not surprised when it happens. But this guy is an AGENT. I mean, somebody you’d expect, even if vindictive and hateful, to act like a professional in his dealings with the media. I guess we don’t have to wonder why he has no other clients.

2. If he thinks there’s a chance in hell the Mets are picking up a $16 million option on Delgado for 2009, he’s delusional on top of everything else.

Anyway, maybe I should have resisted, but I couldn’t. I wrote him back again:

“That a joke too? You’re a funny guy.”

And then, at 12:46 pm, in apparent celebration of Mother’s Day, David Sloane, the agent for Carlos Delgado, wrote back the following e-mail, which I present to you in its entirety:

“So’s your Mom.”

...but isn't there at least a chance that this isn't actually David Sloane?

Maybe it's your mom.

Words of wisdom, those.

If I were not bound & determined to remain gef the talking mongoose , I would almost certainly be some hippie halfwit who thinks he's mr mark smith.

Or maybe me & your granny on bongos.

Yes, yes, I know ...

So's your mom.

Actually I have a buddy from HS that's a hoops agent. He's a real slimeball. As I RTFA, I could envision him having this exact exchange, if only he were successful enough to do so.

And Mike Crudale.

I'm sick & tired of players like Albert Belle & Chris Truby & your mom ... well, I forgot where I was going with that, but you get the drift.

What is The Fall? If it's me and your mom, it's The Fall.

You're sleeping with some hippie halfwit who thinks he's your mom.

Um, no, I don't remember such a ####-storm at all. Perhaps you could provide some links.

I think he's referring to me. I had an E-mail exchange with Bill Conlin and I posted them online.

I trust Repoz is cueing up Vom's (I have only an Angry Sams bootleg recording, I think) "Just Like Your Mom" somewhere even as I type.

That's the only one I remember, though I don't remember you getting roughed up by the mainstream media for posting Conlin's letters. There was some back-and-forth here and other places on the web, but I wasn't aware of it making its way into the mainstream. That's why I requested the links.

I actually think Repoz has used disappointingly few Fall references in his taglines. It's an endless goldmine. Ned Yost gets fired? What could be more perfect than:
SEE YA, MATE. YEAH, SEE YA MATE.
SEE YA, MATE. YEAH, SEE YA MATE.
SEE YA, MATE. YEAH, SEE YA MATE.
SEE YA, MATE. YEAH, SEE YA MATE.
Sarcastic contempt has never been more perfectly embodied than by those four lines.

Only caveat about publishing the email is whether it stops a 'real' agent down the road from 'conversing' with the writer about something that actually matters.

I'd think it would give rival agents pause; they may be more comfortable feeling they can have an informal exchange with other writers.

It's not unusual these days for high-ranking insiders to shoot the breeze with writers via email. Negating that opportunity via publicizing one could be both ethical - and not-so-smart in the long run.

Hey, keep my mother out of this.

Esoteric --

I would reluctantly posit from the evidence that Repoz's record collection may, in fact, be comparatively Fall-deficient.

I find this prospect more troubling than I care to articulate.

I wasn't roughed up by the MSM though I was told that there were some snarky comments made on Conlin's behalf by his compatriots on (Philadelphia) Daily News Live. I didn't see it, so I'm not sure exactly what they said.

Rob Neyer had a blurb about it but I wasn't sure from what angle he was coming from.

Other than that I don't think there was too much reaction from the MSM.

Speaking of snarky comments on Daily News Live... they had Ken Rosenthal on today and they were making fun of the fact that people who use Sabermetrics don't put as much stock in intangibles as they do. They called us "stat guys" but it was in that way that your uncle refers to "the homosexual" in the family.

Marcus Hayes didn't bite.
