MLB.com: Werth’s bat, Myers’ arm guide Phillies
Jayson Werth, who grew up three hours away from Chicago in Springfield, Ill., gave his club a needed lift with a two-homer, four-RBI performance, leading the Phillies to a 5-2 win over the Cubs on Saturday at Wrigley Field… Ryan Howard also homered, belting his Major League-leading 37th, accounting for Philadelphia’s other run.
MLB.com: Bullpen unable to hold lead; Mets fall Heilman issued a walk-off walk to Josh Willingham, sending the Mets to a 4-3 loss at Dolphin Stadium… With the Mets’ bullpen taxed—Luis Ayala and Scott Schoeneweis are nursing injuries—Pelfrey lasted 6 2/3 innings in all.
The Mets could have used a few more. Jacobs led off the eighth inning with a solo homer off Duaner Sanchez, eliminating any chance that Pelfrey might earn his fourth straight win.
