NL East race: September 1, 2008

MLB.com: Delgado digs deep for late damage

The Mets confronted a potential postseason opponent on Monday and didn’t acquit themselves particularly well. But a two-run homer by Carlos Delgado and a run-scoring double by Ryan Church in the eighth inning erased the effect of the first seven innings and fueled another uplifting victory. Behind a slightly-flawed performance by Johan Santana, the Mets defeated the Brewers 4-2…

Break-up the Nats, 7 straight wins for them. I'd love for the Mets not to lose any ground in the next two games.

It was nice to see Santana have a relatively easy go of it considering how well the Brewers hit lefties. He could have very easily not allowed a run at all in this game as Murphy misplayed Hardy's triple and he allowed the other run on a balk.

This would have been a very difficult one to lose. Wright had a couple of brutal at-bats and we committed entirely too much tomfoolery on the bases.

That little snapshot of the Mets-Brewers recap seems oddly negative. Why is the team that won the team that didn't "acquit themselves particularly well?" If the author was trying to say they didn't do so for the first seven innings then the wording of his sentence was grammatically incorrect. Also, while I guess Santana's performance was "slightly flawed," it was good to see him missing a lot of bats again.

The Nats can't seem to buy a loss.

Just when we need them the most.

Word is the Brewers are asking that all of Gagne's stats from this year be rendered null and void (and his contract as well).

Today was the best possible day for your confidence in the Mets bullpen. They look unhittable while Milwaukee has Gagne and Mota in the game.
