NL West race: September 14, 2008

MLB.com: Dodgers waste gem by Maddux

Ultimately, the Rockies pushed across a run in the 10th for the first 1-0 extra-inning win in stadium history, stringing four singles off Dodgers left-hander Hong-Chih Kuo, who was making his first appearance after needing a week off to rest a weary left triceps muscle.
...
Maddux pitched seven scoreless innings and needed only 68 pitches to get there.

MLB.com: D-backs fall to Reds in extras again

Corey Patterson’s home run off the right-field foul pole led the Reds past the D-backs, 2-1, in 10 innings Sunday afternoon at Chase Field.

LAD 77-72 [10-2 in SEPT]
ARI 72-76 [3-9 in SEPT] (4.5 GB)

"Race"? This stopped being a race after the Dodgers swept AZ in LA last weekend

The Reds had 3 hits but since 2 of them were home runs, they won
The Dbacks had 10 hits, 10 walks and 30 (!) LOB
They left a small village on base today

No, the Snakes did NOT leave 30 on base, lev. That's the total of individuals.
The TEAM LOB was... (checks...) 17. Terrible, but it ain't 30.

Despite their best efforts, the D'backs haven't been able to fall over 5 games back yet - hence the continuing roundups.

30. 17. 31. Who cares? Same difference.

5 games may constitute a race in July. On Sept. 14th, it's game over (unless we're talking about the Mets).

Or about a team that lost 8 in a row - including 3 to the Nationals - before their current hot streak started.

Oh yeah, I definitely think the Dodgers are going to lose 8 in a row again...

Will Maddux be on the post season roster?

Just imagine the left-handed college reliever Byrnes and company will be able to snag next year!

Well, he does have to take someone.
The Dbacks will have a lot of picks in next year's draft.
From what I hear though, the draft will really be devoid of major talent.

Oh, probably not - especially with Andruw Jones officially out for the year. But they could lose a bunch, still. And Webb finally seems to be on track. It is a long shot, of course. I'm glad the Dodgers are up by 4.5 games, instead of down. But if you'd like the Dbacks to concede, that's fine with me. Most fans wouldn't, but what the heck.

The Dbacks definitely play according to what I like and don't like. They scare me that way

Yeah, losing when you out-baserunner the other team 20 to 6 is pretty rough.

Whoever the Reds catcher was is just so intimidating that everyone is afraid to run towards him.

AZ 52-68 since May 1.

Baseball is a funny game.

These days, the Reds are trotting out guys like Patterson, Jolbert Cabrera (think Jose Macias), Hairston Jr. and something called Wilkin Castillo (650 OPS in AAA this year though off to a great start) for the OF ... Bako still plays every other day and Phillips is now hurt ... yet they still manage to win the occasional game. Fascinating.

Since Aug 12th, Cincinnati is 16-14 "AD" (After Dunn)

Arizona is 12-18 during the same time period, or since they got Dunn

Funny my arse. :(
