MLB.com: Dodgers blanked by Padres

Faced with the possibility that the Dodgers really can’t win on the road, or that Monday night’s 4-0 loss to the last-place Padres at PETCO Park was merely a one-day letdown after a perfect homestand, manager Joe Torre chose the latter.

“I reminded them before the game we might not have the same emotion, we won’t have the home fans, plus we just played the team we were chasing and ran them down,” Torre said. “It’s a natural reaction.”

MLB.com: D-backs can’t solve Giants ace

[Tim Lincecum] was masterful through 8 1/3 innings as the Giants stymied the D-backs, 6-2, Monday night at AT&T Park. The loss was the 11th in the last 14 games for the D-backs.

Using the categories the average CYA voter will apply, Lincecum has clearly separated himself from the field:

Lincecum: 16-3, 2.54 ERA (169 ERA+), 225/74 K/BB, 198.7 IP.
Webb: 19-7, 3.41 ERA (133 ERA+), 166/57 K/BB, 197.7 IP.
Santana: 13-7, 2.70 ERA (153 ERA+), 175/54 K/BB, 203.3 IP.
Sabathia: 9-0, 1.42 ERA (305 ERA+), 94/20 K/BB, 95.0 IP.

Looks like the little Giant would/should be a unanimous winner if the voting were held today.

It's amazing he was still around at the 10th overall pick, isn't it?

The Dodgers have the largest home/road split in the National League. Hopefully, this road trip isn't going to be the a disaster, but it sure didn't start out well.

Makes ChadBradfordWannabe look pretty good in retrosepect...

#41 - New York Yankees - P Joba Chamberlain

This Sidney Ponson wannabe doesn’t have Ponson’s powerful mechanics (not this year, I’m talking years past). I just don’t like him nearly enough for all the buzz he gets. I like athletes, and if he turns out like Ponson, he will weigh 280 in few years. No thank you.

So was he right or wrong about the 11th pick ?

Wrong: gave Scherzer a C. On balance, though, his grading looks pretty good in retrospect, though naturally it is way too early to tell:
CBW's 1st-round 2006 breakdown

His top ten were:
1) Lincecum
2) Morrow
3) Conger
4) Lincoln
5) Longoria
6) Bard
7) Hochevar
8) Kershaw
9) Reynolds
10) Parmelee

His ranks of #s 11 and 41:
26) Scherzer
35) Chamberlain
