No Blame in Griffey Saga

It’s not often that I feel badly for someone who has lived a dream and earned a 9 figure living, but I do for Griffey.

makes me think of willie mays. the analogy isn't exactly apt -- mays didn't have the injury issues -- but taking willie out of new york kind of messed up his legend, imho. for one thing, he would have challenged ruth if he wasn't playing in candlestick for so many years. he's always been a big 'what if...?'
but there are other players you can play that game with. look at mantle.

Neyer had something on Mays and his home stadia about a decade ago. In his piece, he concluded that Mays' home parks was not as big of a factor as people assume. His home/road splits were never very large. In a few seasons, Mays had more HR's in Candlestick than on the road.
