Thou shall not be tender to your patterson
One can only hope.
It's the moment of truth for KW and Oz.
Hence the off-season acquisition of Jose Thome, and the re-signing of Pedro Konerko and AJ (Antonio Juan) Pierzynski.

Don't forget Credandez at third and Raul Iguchi at second.
One might have though that the "moment of truth" occurred somewhere around the last week or so of October.
Anyway, I hear there will soon be a lot of job opening for New York subway employees, so these guys shouldn't be out of work long.
I was wondering where Shane Halter was.
You were the only one.
He, Casey Candaele, Manny Alexander, and Bill Spiers have opened a Utility Infielder Fantasy Camp in Surprise, Arizona. For like $2,000, you get to learn how to do everything adequately except hit.
Also, the one opening on their bench seems to be for a fourth outfielder/pinch hitter type, and Ozzie Guillen seems to think Timo is a good defensive outfielder and a capable pinch-hitter, neither of which is true.
I'm sure Baird and Littlefield are looking, too
The Dodgers have until 9 tonight to offer salary arbitration to their remaining eligible players, Jason Phillips and Hee-Seop Choi. Phillips is all but certain to become a non-tender free agent. Choi has been offered a one-year contract despite the fact that Garciaparra's signing, Olmedo Saenz's re-signing and Kent's availability to play first base make his value to the team limited.
If Choi does not accept the contract offer, he will not be offered arbitration.
That's a little surprising. You'd think they could get something in a trade for Choi. Any team interested in him would probably prefer to get the chance to pay him the tiny arb amount he'll get. (low ba and rbi)
No more living paycheck-to-paycheck for him!
I'm sure we'll find a time for a weekday happy hour.
Gogs will prevail!

Post your non-tenders here, c'mon!
Harris I'm sad to see go. He's probably not good enough to be a starter, but he should catch on somewhere as a Chone Figgins without the uber-versatility or on-base skills. Timo... well, if the rumor's true, good times.
Corey Patterson got a contract offer!

Cubs didn't non-tender anyone.
(I'm going through all the MLB.com sites, trying to find tidbits. Obviously, I've made it up to 'CUBS'. Bluejays tendered all their players, as well, FWIW.)
I believe it just means they'll hold on to his rights, and unless they reach agreement, they go to arb.
I presumed that the contract had the club's figure, giving the player a choice -- either take it, or go to arbitration and propose your own figure, making the arbitrator pick between the two.
Hooray, beer!
Hence the off-season acquisition of Jose Thome, and the re-signing of Pedro Konerko and AJ (Antonio Juan) Pierzynski.
I about fell out of my chair from laughing, comedy gold.
Unless the Player has exercised his right to become a free agent as set forth in the Basic Agreement, the Club may retain reservation rights over the Player by instructing the Office of the Commissioner to tender to the Player a contract for the term of the next year by including the Player on the Central Tender Letter that the Office of the Commissioner submits to the Players Association on or before December 20 . . .
As for the Central Tender Letter itself (attachment 9 to the Basic Agreement), Article XX(A) of the Basic Agreement describes it:
The Central Tender Letter shall, consistent with Article VI(B) and Article VI(D), include for each Player so tendered the salary or salaries, performance bonuses and/or other terms, if any, offered by the Club. The Central Tender Letter also shall separately list, also by Club, those players who have not been tendered a contract for the term of the next year.
In other words, the club doesn't just send a blank contract; they specify a salary.
In other Mets' news, they offered contracts to their three unsigned players eligible for salary arbitration: right-hander Victor Zambrano, backup catcher Ramon Castro and infielder Chris Woodward.
New York failed to offer contracts to right-hander Tyler Yates and outfielder Wayne Lydon, who become free agents Wednesday. The Mets hope to sign the pair to minor league deals.
Chad Bradford and Wade Miller are NT.
Apparently Towers wants to prove that Sean Burroughs had no value whatsoever. Funny, considering Towers has been GM for 10 years, and any mistakes he dumps are his own. Seriously, you'd think recasting Burroughs as a utility/bench guy and trading him for a C prospect or a 5th OF would have been possible. Odd.
He really shouldn't have written that autobiography.
Such 'Specialists' are an inefficient use of resources that that Epstein guy may have bought into, but this new progressive FO is going to have none of that kind of backward thinking, thank you very much :P
The Red Sox will OOGY no more...
Cameron Diaz's shoes will never be safe, however, as long as Peter Gammons is free.
Yes, but that's not necessarily the figure they submit for arbitration. They can tender the minimum, or whatever latest offer they've made in negotiations. Then they continue negotiating, with arb figures coming early next year.
Alderson even said at the time of the trade that they were just hoping to negotiate with Brazelton, and were considering non-tendering him. He admitted that they would have non-tendered Burroughs.
Seriously, you'd think recasting Burroughs as a utility/bench guy and trading him for a C prospect or a 5th OF would have been possible. Odd.
They also got Stephen Andrade in the deal, who's possibly more valuable than a C prospect or 5th OF (but as a Rule 5er, they have to keep him on the big-league squad).
New Choi thread created
I can't believe they'd non-tender Girl Mouth.
I don't think he'll be ready to pitch for a while, but I've also heard that he is ahead of schedule. They might be trying to be intenionally vague, hoping no one picks him up. There's a little blurb from Grant himself on Seth Speaks Twins Blog this week. Judge for yourself:
...did not tender contracts to catcher Jason Phillips, outfielder Mike Edwards and infielder Brian Myrow.
Actually in this instance, the name would be better translated as "small mouth".
Ouch.
The also non-tendered Jamal Strong should be worth a flyer from a team needing an OF (Yankees).
AP link
To re-sign him to a minor league deal. He was hurt much of last year.
Mike Edwards led the Dodgers in innings at third last year - that's ridiculous.
As long as it isn't "pretty mouth".
I gotta admit, I'd seen his name before - but I couldn't have told you the first thing about him before a few minutes ago. A little over a year ago, the Pads signed him out of a tryout camp for $1 - prior to that, he'd played Indy ball and in the Brewers system (decent K figures, but not much else). Dude also has a biochem degree from Yale and was considering med school at NYU, so I guess he can fall back on that, if need be. Throws a curve, 85-88 mph fastball, and changeup.
The Sox declined to reveal which players weren't tendered contracts by Tuesday's 11 p.m. deadline,
The Trib article does go on to speculate:
but it was expected that outfielder Timo Perez and infielder Willie Harris were among them and would become free agents.
I'm still trying to find out which of the Devil Rays relievers got non-tendered, so it could be worse.
The Pirates were expected to tender contract offers to all six of their arbitration-eligible players -- starters Oliver Perez, Kip Wells and Josh Fogg; reliever Ryan Vogelsong; and outfielders Craig Wilson and Jody Gerut -- before the deadline of midnight last night, but the team will not make that information public until this morning.
[Forgetting] Dave Littlefield.
Devil Rays Come To Terms With Hall
As expected, the Rays bullpen could change dramatically next season as the team non-tendered relievers Joe Borowski, Trever Miller and Lance Carter. However, the Rays then agreed to terms with Carter on a one-year deal worth around $550,000 plus incentives.
...
The Rays had yet to announce the fates of relievers Jesus Colome and Travis Harper, as well as left-handed starters Mark Hendrickson and Casey Fossum.
Although the White Sox did not confirm the moves Tuesday night, a source close to the situation indicated Harris would be non-tendered, along with outfielder Timo Perez and Minor League hurler Felix Diaz. Contracts would be tendered, as expected, to third baseman Joe Crede, pitcher Jon Garland and utility man Rob Mackowiak.

For those of you who were breathelessly awaiting Jamey Carroll's status (and who wasn't?), the Nats tendered him a contract offer.
