a source close to the situation indicated Harris would be non-tendered, along with outfielder Timo Perez and Minor League hurler Felix Diaz.

Hallelujah!

That source had better be of the non-made up variety.

AP just posted a team-by-team list. Barring any surprises, my work is done.

MLB.com transactions page says Borowski was DFA, not non-tendered, by Tampa.

I wonder if my post was eaten by the turn monster?
MLB.com transactions page has Borowski as DFA by Tampa, not non-tendered.
(Whatever difference that makes...)
   105. Snowboy Posted: December 21, 2005 at 06:15 AM (#1787811)
Uh, I guess the turn monster just took a while to chew and spit, sorry.

Yeah, I posted that on the first page of the thread when it came out, but the AP and Tampa Tribune said he was non-tendered.

Actually, I did a quick edit on this thread. When you edit, it causes things to be unstuck.

(I confess that on threads I start that get stuck, and its been stuck awhile, sometimes I'll go back and edit the thread - just throw an extra period in or something unnoticeable. That seems to do the trick)
   108. Snowboy Posted: December 21, 2005 at 06:20 AM (#1787818)
I noticed in the Tampa Trib article that Lance Carter was non-tendered, but immediately resigned by Tampa. Maybe he should have waited one day, just to see if the phone rang?
   109. Snowboy Posted: December 21, 2005 at 06:30 AM (#1787820)
NTNgod, carry on with your tricks.
You're one of the better mods/thread starters here.

I am a bit surprised about Yates, but if they can get him back in a minor league deal, that will be nice.

MGL, for the love of god save Walt Jocketty from himself in regards to Eric Byrnes. Please confront him with enough evidence that Byrnes is a crap ballplayer that he isn't going to be blinded by his hustle.
   114. Snowboy Posted: December 21, 2005 at 07:25 AM (#1787848)
Ryan Spilborghs, 25 year old OFer.
TUL-AA 341/435/525 in 255 AB...49K/42BB
CSp-AAA 339/405/551 in 227 AB...53K/22BB

Those are some friendly parks, but I don't care who you are or where you play, those are some decent numbers.

Bo Hart (STL)

So long, Bo, and fare well. We'll always have late June 2003.
   116. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: December 21, 2005 at 07:37 AM (#1787853)
That's what I was thinking, too...

Byrnes is a Cardinal right now.
   117. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: December 21, 2005 at 08:27 AM (#1787865)
A lot of teams could use Mike Edwards, but he only got a shot because of Paul DePodesta, and he'll never get another one.

Please, for the love of all that's good and holy, let this be true!

What's wrong with Byrnes as a 4th OF? i'd love to see the White Sox pick him up to provide some depth...oh wait, he'd be starting for the Cards, right? Very well then, carry on.

CHICAGO (4) -- Jon Adkins, rhp; Felix Diaz, rhp; Willie Harris, inf; Timo Perez, of.

They got rid of Downtown Jonny, too!

Alex Escobar (WAS)

A cautionary tale for us Milledge fans.

Alex Escobar (WAS)

A cautionary tale for us Milledge fans.

And encouragement to trade with Jim Bowden. We got a real live prospect for Escobar.
   125. Crispix Attacks Posted: December 21, 2005 at 03:00 PM (#1788102)
Yeah, didn't Spivey get some MVP votes three years ago?
   126. UncleLarry Posted: December 21, 2005 at 04:33 PM (#1788290)
Grant Balflour would seem to be a fine reliever. There are a few good arms outthere it seems. One could piece together a decent bullpen out of the non-tendered list.
Interesting stuff.
   127. Toolsy McClutch Posted: December 21, 2005 at 05:13 PM (#1788370)
Man, I'd take a flier on Olivo.
   128. Dewey, Steven Wright Wannabe and Soupuss Posted: December 21, 2005 at 05:18 PM (#1788377)
Josh Fogg, Chad Bradford, Joe Valentine, Miguel Olivo, Alex Escobar...

Lot of former White Sox trade bait on this list.

I would brag, but I notice that the swag for Ray Durham is also on this list.
   129. The Balls of Summer Posted: December 21, 2005 at 06:53 PM (#1788651)
I'd like the Giants to pick up Spivey to back up the MI, and sign Ainsworth to an AAA contract for kicks.
   130. Fat Al Posted: December 21, 2005 at 06:53 PM (#1788652)
Can someone explain what the Padres are doing? Trade Loretta for Mirabelli, then non-tender Olivo? How are Olivo + Loretta (or either of them, for that matter) not > Mirabelli?
   131. Slinger Francisco Barrios (Dr. Memory) Posted: December 21, 2005 at 06:59 PM (#1788672)
How are Olivo + Loretta (or either of them, for that matter) not > Mirabelli?

About the only thing Olivo has over Mirabelli is age.
   132. Fat Al Posted: December 21, 2005 at 07:21 PM (#1788726)
About the only thing Olivo has over Mirabelli is age.

I know he's nothing special, but he played pretty well for SD last year (awfully for Seattle), and I can't imagine the upgrade from Olivo to a 10-year veteran catcher who has never had 250 ML ABs in a season is worth Mark Loretta. I just don't get it.
   133. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: December 21, 2005 at 07:32 PM (#1788754)
Escobar and Tucker re-upped with their old clubs on minor league deals.
   134. OlePerfesser Posted: December 21, 2005 at 07:48 PM (#1788789)
Well, yeah, there is a lot of coal there. I wonder if, however, some better talent may yet shake loose. E.g., some GMs worried about arb awards may try to move talent in trades, and teams may need to DFA some people to make roster room... stuff like that.

Otherwise, this is pretty damn anticlimactic.

And I'll wager Byrnes is a Red Sock, either as Trot's platoon partner or as part of a CF platoon or a Manny caddy. (Can you say "either" if there are 3 possibilities?)
   135. Teheran's Uranium Enriched Missiles Posted: December 21, 2005 at 08:06 PM (#1788829)
I don't know, I think the non-tender list is fairly interesting this year..
Tyler Yates is a good bet to rebound depending on how he recovers from his arm trouble
Borowski and Bradford will be picked up..
Rick Short, Chavez, Strong are definitely worth a flyer on.
   136. Steve Threadair Posted: December 21, 2005 at 08:18 PM (#1788852)
He was bad last year but Jim Brower has been a serviceable reliever for a couple of years. He can even start in a pinch. If he's not hurt, I think he could help a lot of teams.
   137. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: December 21, 2005 at 08:39 PM (#1788894)
Olivo, with Seattle last season, was without exaggeration the worst major league baseball player I have ever seen.

Of course, he went to San Diego and hit pretty well. The guy is beyond an enigma.

   140. John Reynard Posted: December 21, 2005 at 11:07 PM (#1789201)
Olivo is actually someone with a lot of potential to be a good player but since he's reaching what should be his peak years I don't think he'll ever arrive at his potential. Playing at his potential he could be a .275/.350/.500 guy with 25 steals at a high rate of success. That said unless he signs with Colorado don't bet the mortgage on him ever doing it.

That ends this edition of the Mike Mordecai Poetry Corner.

As for #140, I think the Ziffbot has replicated itself.

What's the deal with Ziff? I don't follow the posting patterns of most people here, but he seems to say some wierd things.

It appears Obermueller, Spillborghs, and Acevedo also re-signed Thursday with minor-league deals after being non-tendered.
