Note to Alex Anthopoulos: Follow the Dan O’Dowd Model

How can the Blue Jays realistically compete with the Red Sox and Yankees with Vernon Wells consuming so much of their payroll? The answer lies with Rockies GM Dan O’Dowd.

So, Anthopoulos is going to be more than an interim guy, no? I missed any announcements after JP's firing.

He's got enough options to choose from.

I thought he was going to suggest the Jays play in a ballpark 5,000 feet above sea level. Probably not financially feasible, though the name "Banff Blue Jays" does have a nice ring to it.

The Rockies won their wild cards with 90 and 92 wins. It's been a while since such a record would have yielded a playoff spot in the AL.

It's nice to see the Rockies get a little credit for what they've done. They have more work to do though. It's been a long time since they had 2 good seasons in a row, and a division title would be nice (they've never won one). Now is probably when it gets tempting to make those desperate FA signings.

They're going to re-sign Tracy. The grumblings about his micro-managing already started, though it doesn't seem he's been throwing any players under the bus or trying to bring extra attention to himself.

When he starts benching Fowler for AAAA Scrappy Dolittle, then it's on.

So his suggestion is to build through the farm, and hope for Vernon Wells to improve.

That's some brilliant analysis right there.

The CN tower is about 1800 feet tall, so they just have to extend it upwards by another 3200 feet and figure out how to balance a ballpark on the top.

I would become an instant Blue Jays devotee if they did that, NYG.

Didn't Tracy bench Innanetta?

Yes, for Scrappy Dolittle. Although Scrappy went on to hit over .300, so the move didn't raise an eyebrow.

I thought Scrappy Dolittle would be Eric Young Jr. in this case, if they're benching Dexter Fowler.

I missed the part about how they get to move to a crappy division.

Yes, the NL West is so crappy that it had the wild card and the team with the most wins in the NL.

If Anthopoulos can move the Jays into the NL West, I think this plan will work.

When he's done with the important stuff like building a winning team, maybe he can press ownership to do something about the crappy uniforms. Something with blue as the dominant color would be a good starting point. How about a blue jay on the cap the way Baltimore has an oriole on theirs and a blue/white uniform (blue/grey on the road) with a large maple leaf on one of the sleeves. No stripes, crazy fonts, or multiple shades of blue. Make it clean and uncluttered like the Dodgers' uniform. As soon as one flicks the channel to one of their games, the uniform should shout out "Blue Jays" and "Canada" immediately. The uniform with a black cap and trim needs to go ASAP.

Some interesting thoughts from former Blue Jays president Paul Godfrey about Ricciardi.

Your reaction to these incidents is rather alarming. Seek help. Failing that, point me to this rule you speak of.

Agree with Esoteric.

Also, your banner is similar to what a 12 year old would make in 1997

Wait, are the articles approved any more or is everything submitted? I don't mind self-linking if an "editor" clears the submission (to keep spam and relentless self-promoting to a minimum).

I really don't mind if the odd person does it once in a while. Unless there is a rule - in which case people should follow Jim's rules.

So, the plan is to screw around for eight years, wait for league quality to slack off, and stagger ass-first into the playoffs a couple of times? It could work.
