Note to Melky - Field the ball first, THEN acknowledge the Bleacher Creatures (Video)

The most knowledgeable AND helpful fans in the major leagues…

Embarrassing moment for Melky Cabrera to start off the game tonight.

...For those of you who don’t know, the “Bleacher Creatures” chant the name of every Yankee at the beginning of each game at Yankee Stadium. Typically, if there is a play going on, the player will take care of business, and then tip his cap to the fans. Not the case with Melky Cabrera, obviously.

If A-Rod had done that, the Bleacher Creatures would refuse to chant his name ever again.

The Bleacher Creatures chant John Sterling's name, IIRC. So much for credibility.

If they had cost Jeter an error, Michael Kay would have blathered for ten minutes about how they shouldn't distract the players during the game.

Fist pumps take less time than cap tips.

I missed that. Melky's approach at the plate has regressed this season. This is further evidence that the mental part of the game is now a problem for him.

I saw the play, and it sure was odd - he waved to the bleachers as he was charging the ball, but when he got to it he seemed to have his eyes on the ball, then it took a funny hop. So maybe he wasn't concentrating enough to pick up the bad hop, but it wasn't like he was looking in the complete opposite direction.

I think you can legitimately argue that Melky waving to the Bleacher Creatures had nothing to do with the error, which came on a really bad hop. You could argue the other side as well.

But that isn't actually close to the point, of course, you can't be waving to the crowd in the middle of a play. You just can't.
