N.Y. Daily News: Spector: The end of the X-Man

As if Good Guy sweatshirt giveaways and ‘name it and claim it’ puffery weren’t enough...now Spector has to track down Kuff and the Buttheads!

Back in 2006, I wrote a story about some of baseball’s Internet oddities - that is, before I became one myself. Included in the story was a mention of a local band called Kuff and the Buttheads, whose song “The Ballad of X” was a heartfelt, humorous and more than a little off-color tribute to Xavier Nady after the Mets traded him to Pittsburgh.

Now that Nady has been traded at the deadline once again, this time from Pittsburgh to the Yankees, I had to find out how singer/songwriter Tim Kuffner was feeling about it, and to find out if this might result in another song.

Well, he’s not happy.

“Words alone can not express how deeply, and genuinely hurt and disappointed I am with this trade,” Kuffner said. “Xavier is no longer the X-Man to me. To have to see him playing in pinstripes is kind of like being forced to watch an endless string of Golden Girl episodes. As for a song, there will be one, maybe just a continuation of the original, except X will lose his mythical status as he puts on the uniform of that evil Bronx franchise.”

X-man, thank you for being a friend.

That was a good show.

From the headline I though Nady got hit by a bus or something......

Which for me anyway might be preferable to watching a Golden Girls episode. Not that there is anything wrong with anyone else liking the show...... RIP Estelle Getty.

That was a good show.

I was never a fan but it was a well-written sitcom.

So much palaver over mediocrity.

I wonder what Freddy Peterson thinks.

Nady has the extraordinary mutant ability to kill rallies simply by waving a wooden stick.

A few years back I read a NYT article about how three or four of the younger writers on the show each went on to produce or create their own critically acclaimed shows. They all credited their GG experience for their future success. I don't remember the writers or the shows.

I looked it up. This guy created "Arrested Development." This person created "8 Simple Rules." This guy created "Desperate Housewives."

EDIT: Two out of three shows ain't bad.

I watch an hour of Golden Girls every morning, followed by a couple of hours of Little House on the Prairie, which makes me two hours late for work. I used to spend that time watching SportsCenter, before either ESPN turned into the current ESPN or I turned gay.

Not that these concepts are necessarily mutually exclusive.

Aside from the working part, this reminds me of the first couple months after I graduated from high school. Except I polished it all off with an episode of Mr. Rogers. And then, the bong.

I think I speak for everyone on here when I say that I'm shocked about the order of the above statement.

This person created "8 Simple Rules."

Hey don't hate on 8 Simple Rules man. John Ritter is pure quality, that kid who played Rory had surprisingly good timing, Kaley Cuoco is ballin', and they replaced Ritter with a combo of James Garner and David Spade. Good stuff.

He did write for "According to Jim" though, which I don't condone at all.

Ask anyone in the lounge, I am a huge Golden Girls fan.

They have impecable timing, as a whole, their was great interplay between them, and no one actress overshadowed the other. Each was a strong comedic presence. There hasn't been another show like it since it left the air.

I have an ex that was a big fan. I mocked it until I watched a few with her and had to concede, it's a funny show.

SJ should marry my friend Stef. She's probably the only person in the world who loves GGs more than him.

Lifetime showed the last two Golden Girls episodes this morning; Dorothy married Leslie Nielsen, who was Blanche's cousin or something. Tomorrow morning they begin again with the first episodes. We can fall in love with them all over again.
