NY Daily News: Yanks to check out Victor Zambrano

Scott Kazmir is pitching at Yankee Stadium Tuesday night. Can Victor Zambrano be far behind?

In their never-ending quest to find starting pitching, the Yankees plan to send a scout to watch the free-agent righty throw sometime this week, according to a source. Zambrano is infamous for being the pitcher the Mets got when they shipped highly touted prospect Kazmir to Tampa at the trading deadline in 2004.

Zambrano, who went 10-14 over three seasons with the Mets, pitched for Toronto and Baltimore last season, but hasn’t pitched in the majors this year. After being designated for assignment by Colorado at the end of spring training, Zambrano went 0-6 with a 9.45 ERA for the Rockies’ Triple-A club.

Steve Trachsel is looking for work...

I shudder to think of how excruciating a Matsuzaka v. Zambrano/Trachsel game would be. They might actually tear a whole in the universe with their incessant nibbling.

I love that even the MSM is now on board with immediate Mets-baiting hijacks, even in their own articles about non-Mets teams.

I have no doubt the Kazmir trade will still be infamous in 2104.

I look forward to the continuing evolution of who's to blame for that trade.

The Rockies have had a lot of problems this year with injuries and ineffectiveness in their rotation, to the point that they've had to have Mark Redman and Glendon Rusch start games. Yet they've released Zambrano from their AAA team. That should tell you something.

Awesome on so many levels and for so many reasons.

I don't see the problem with kicking tires. The Yanks should kick all the tires they can. Anyone remember Aaron Small and Shawn Chacon? Chacon was almost free, Small was. They found Edwar in the indy leagues.

Well, Rick Peterson is unemployed right now. Maybe this time he can really fix Zambrano?

It could tell me that the Rockies aren't good at evaluating pitchers.

Wow. Black man likely to become US President. Brewers trade for last year's Cy Young winner to bolster World Series hopes. Yankees scout Zambrano. Not that one.

Chacon is free again. Well, free if you don't count the cost of Cashman needing to hire a bodyguard.

At this point letting Jeter pitch every 5th day seems like a valid option. Maybe Jose Molina, he's got a cannon. Melky too.

Hey now. The Yankees may be struggling with their pitching, but there's no need for them to sink to the depths of (ugh) the Seattle Mariners.

If Carl Pavano pitches an inning for the Yankees I'm heading for the bomb shelter.
