N.Y. Daily News: Source: Roger Clemens flew women around country, bought them jewelery

I’m Roger, fry me.

Roger Clemens hung out with several attractive women in his baseball career, including beauties in California and Boston and a former Manhattan bartender named Angela Moyer.

Clemens, 45, flew the women around the country on his private jet and bought expensive jewelry for at least one of them, a source told the Daily News Tuesday.

...Moyer, a 30-year-old Realtor who lives in the Harrisburg, Pa., area, worked as a bartender from 2000 to 2004 at Sutton Place, a yuppie East Side watering hole. That’s roughly the same time the pitching legend played for the Yankees. Moyer acknowledged she knew Clemens, but has declined to discuss the relationship. She was spotted driving up to her father’s apartment house last night, but said only “no comment” when asked about Clemens. She then sped off.

McCready, meanwhile, appeared at a suburban Nashville studio yesterday to begin recording the comeback album she hopes will revive her career, which has stalled as the result of legal troubles. “I’ve been playing poker and I invented a new game called ‘I win,’” McCready said with a laugh, still nervous from her time under the media microscope this week.

Holy Gordon Solied shorts! He also hit on Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake’s wife!

Her mother, Gayle Inge, later told The News, "I know Roger was infatuated with Mindy."

Wow, seems like Roger bought the girl from her parents.

You can't write this stuff. Roger becomes less and less of a man by the day, nay, the hour. Sure the media has had it's way with it, but where there's smoke there's fire. This is juicy stuff.

It certainly does seem to be raining #### on Joe Cooper Roger Clemens right now.

Clemens has 0 fans left.

I note the Daily News again implies -- but does not flat out say -- that there was a sexual relationship (with this Moyer).

The Daily News is about as low as a newspaper can go at this point.

And yet Hardin keeps portraying Clemens as some kind of White Knight.

I've got no love for Clemens, but this is a *really* weak article.

I mean, the entire substance of the story boils down to "professional athlete hung out with attractive women," and even then, they couldn't get someone to go on the record about it? He knew a female bartender in a city where he played baseball for five years? They can't even say who the other women were or which one he bought jewelry for? And it's all attributed to a single anonymous "source" who won't even give an actual quote? Weak.

I find it interesting that you refer to the Daily News as, "The Paper." The paper contains facts.

Actually, "the paper" only needs to contain fiber.

Right down there with E-60.

This is such a stupid article.

"Roger knew Pretty People" would have been a better headline.

Clemens has 0 100's of thousands fans left.

I dread the day the entire world turns into ESPN sheep. It is close, I'll say that much, but thankfully there are a few free thinkers left.

Actually, I get it. The real title of this article:

"Clemens bangs women balding, pudgy sportswriters can't touch"
   16. Gonfalon Bubble Posted: April 30, 2008 at 02:13 AM (#2763900)
Being shocked and disgusted at the possibility that a pro athlete screwed around may be one of the few things more disingenuous as being shocked and disgusted at the possibility that a pro athlete used PEDs.

That said, the New York Daily News' coverage, which was never exactly delivered in a calm or measured voice, has taken a strange turn towards "vendetta." What the paper's motivation is, we don't know. Obviously they want to "own" the steroid story as evidenced by their inane "I-Team" self-promotion. But the Daily News has systematically trashed McGwire and Bonds and Palmeiro and Pettitte and several others without getting like this. There's got to be some bitter News-Clemens backstory that the I-Team isn't as eager to share with the public.

If I were Clemens, it'd certainly be worth a little seed money to investigate the private lives of the News' publisher, editor, sports editor, and a few of its signature writers. The odds that they all clock out at 4:59 and go home to make godly missionary position love to their first wives must be close to 0.00%. As the News has already declared total thermonuclear war, there's not much for Clemens to lose by digging up and leaking anything embarrassing. The News was already publishing two-page press releases by McNamee's lawyer deconstructing the dreaded pool party photos, and screaming "EXCLUSIVE." If they're down to trawling Roger's little black book, there's not much for Clemens to fear in the way of as-yet-unearthed legal jeopardy in his case. And it's not as if the News can run the big fella out of town. I think he has to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on Clemens' part. And he's just the guy to do it.

That is, unless Roger actually has managed to suppress the details of some truly twisted activity that he's only conducted within the confines of his Antarctic Fortress of Evil.

Houston, eh? That's interesting...

I thought the Moyer chick was attractive too until I clicked on v of d's link. Now, not so much.

Anyway, this is why famous people are so reluctant to file defamation suits.

Moyer was put out there by the Post. This is just a normal folo of their folo of our story.

The same occurred to me as #16. The owner of the NY Daily News is #188 on Forbes list. He made his money long before he bought the Daily News. The source of his wealth per Forbes is his company, "Boston Properties." In his magazine, US News and World Report, Mr. Zuckerman wrote a glowing piece a few years ago about his great relationship with Fidel Castro. He says in his piece which I found online that he is keen on baseball and that and Castro are both former pitchers. He attended Harvard and taught there for a number of years.

The McCready stuff bothers me tremendously because of her age at the time the relationship -- whether it was sexual or not -- began. In contrast, to the extent Roger couldn't keep his rocket in his pants with other consenting adults, well, that's not something I care all that much about.

I will be totally down on Roger if it turns out he was having sex with a 15 year old or if he gets outed as a pedofile, but the fact that she was 15, in and of itself, doesn't stir a whole lot of moral pissed-offness in me. Perhaps that's scandinavian living. Is the problem that the minor was 15, or that it was a 15 year old girl?

Bingo.

For every 15 year old girl having sex there is a father re-evaluating his attitude toward homicide.

Best Regards

If there were, there would be fewer 15-year old girls having sex. The fathers of a lot of those 15-year old girls are nowhere to be found. In a place like Baltimore, there's a decent chance those fathers are either incarcerated or entombed.

Of course. It'd be silly and pointless of me to say that I was against teenage sex per se, not to mention a little hypocritical. But there is a value to a hormone-addled teenage boy knowing and understanding that the girl (or boy) he's putting the moves on is someone's treasured daughter (or son), as opposed to being someone out on their own in a harsh world where get-what-you-can-and-get-it-now is the only law.

No need to apologize. What I said in #42 could have been interpreted in several ways, only one of which was what I said in #44.

The state and the law are not very good substitutes for good parents. Unfortunately in some circumstances, the state and the law are the best substitutes available.

sorry guys, retract that bingo call. i have a daughter. but it's a done deal, no Roger in her future - she will live at home until she's 35....

i overspoke my case. i was responding within a very narrow window of context which excludes sex, and a contact based between a public personality and a potentially emerging public personality. my bad. i would of course be very suspicious of a 28 year old man-child befriending my (in 10 years time) 15 year old daughter.

good call. however, attitudes here in scandinavia are different. they have warped me ; )

No. VFV is Watchmen's little brother, with a lot of flash but less depth and substance. From Hell is Watchmen's older brother, wiser and more thoughtful but not nearly as hip or exciting. The only graphic novel that can really touch Watchmen is TDKR, but even Frank Miller would probably admit Moore is better.
