N.Y. Times: A Blog for Baseball Fans Builds a League of Sites

The Kos…Blez…Blog…Cog.

Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, on starting up SportsBlogs…..I realized that blogs were really effective for partisan audiences. One of them is sports. Sports is huge - where you’ve got your Red Sox and Yankees situation - and religion is another, but in religion, people kill each other, so I decided I’d rather stay away from religion.

Thanks to bob gaj

Style question:

The Times references him at the beginning of the article as Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, but then calls him Mr. Moulitsas throughout the rest of the piece. Is Moulitsas considered his last name?

Yeah, Zuniga is his mother's maiden name. Most people don't know that. It's a Hispanic naming thing.

Chris P, you do know that mentioning LGF increases the chances that Charles links this thread or that story, right?

Of course, some might argue that such blogs are essentially mouthpieces for teams like the A's

Or, in the case of most blogs, a mouthpiece for critics of the organization.

I'm not going to touch the part about religion.

And yes, this story is basically little more than a piece of free advertising. It's their paper, so the folks at the Times can give free advertising to whoever they want to.

Did the habit of posting "First" or its variant "Frist" on Atrios (where its tolerated) and Daily Kos (where it's very much frowned upon) come from BTF?

"first" was a slashdot thing
   9. Answer Guy Posted: April 18, 2005 at 04:46 PM (#1267064)
Ah. I feel like I should be reading Slashdot, but usually I find my needs for those sort of things filled by, as loath as I am to admit it, Something Awful.

Yeah, everyone knows that the A's are the darlings of the mainstream media.

"first" was a slashdot thing

Wikipedia on first posts.

It claims the practice originated on BBS'es in the pre-web days.

You're missing out. The Giants site is like having an intimate chat with the bastard son of Ernest Hemingway and Leonard Koppett.

Or, maybe, Joe Ezterhas and Rick Sutcliffe?

Oh, come now. I can't even quote a Simpsons episode if I wanted to?

"Bastard bastard bastard! Bastard bastard bastard!"
   17. Floyd Thursby Posted: April 19, 2005 at 12:50 AM (#1269020)
And why would it allow the middle bastard of a three-bastard set?

Okay. I'm done with this now.
