NY Times: Bids For Chicago Cubs Submitted

Billion Dollar Cubbies...Badada!

The first bids for the storied Chicago Cubs baseball team and related assets were submitted on Friday in an auction that could fetch more than $1 billion, according to a source close to the process.

At least 10 potential owner groups have been approved by Major League Baseball to bid on the Cubs, as well as its home ballpark, Wrigley Field, and a stake in a sports TV network.

The source, who asked not to be identified because the sale process is continuing, submitted an indication of interest for all three assets.

Thanks to SteveM.

I put in $50 bucks and a collection of autographed seroquel bottles. I'm waiting for a response.

Autographed by who? If it's Gouverneur Morris, you've got yourself a deal.

Before anyone asks:

Also expected to submit bids for the Cubs are ... Internet billionaire Mark Cuban, owner of the National Basketball Association Dallas Mavericks...

I should probably partner up with Voros, because my bid of $9 and a Derek Jeter Rookie card may not be enough

I submitted my bid. Do I get like an e-mail notifying me that I won?

Hopefully, the winning ownership group will do a good job. I hope cubs fans will get to enjoy the benefit of good ownership resulting in some exciting championship seasons, and fans of other teams whining that you're now buying championships "just like the Yankees and Red Sox."

You know, I wouldn't mind the whining if the Yankees actually DID buy championships. But ever since Big Stein started on his real spending spree with Jason Giambi, it has been "no rings for you". The may have spent good money before that, but the rings really came when Jeter/Mariano/Pettitte/Bernie/Mo were all still cost-effective.
