NY Times: Rare Signs of Life Uncovered at Shea (RR)

...Fernando Tatis drove home two runs in the 12th inning with a double to the left-field corner against Justin Miller (1-2) to give the Mets a 7-6 victory over the Florida Marlins.

It was the Mets’ second consecutive victory and only the second time this season they have won after trailing following the sixth inning. And they had to come from behind twice, the first time in the ninth to tie it, the second in the 12th to win it.

In the ninth, Endy Chávez tied the score, 5-5, with a pinch-hit home run… “The ambience over here is changing,” Chávez said. “It’s more positive.”
...
After Wednesday’s inspirational victory, [Randolph] spoke with words more charged than usual. “Make this kind of magic happen,” Randolph said. “It’s kind of contagious. I’ve got a good feeling about this team.”
...
Moises Alou said Wednesday he hoped to return from his strained left calf injury on June 5 for a game at San Diego… “I play hard, I’m old, I’m beat up,” Alou said, referring to how he is described in news reports. “It’s true. It bothers me. It hurts.”

Endy Magic rides again.

The performances of Heilman and Sanchez were very encouraging and more important than the first appearance of Endy Magic. Heilman was dominant and despite giving up the homer, Sanchez threw 4 or 5 fastballs at 92-93 MPH in the 11th. Considering it was his second inning and he had worked the night before, Sanchez's performance was really nice to see.

We still don't know if Sanchez will regain the consistent 93-95 MPH fastball he had before the injury but tonight suggests it possible that his arm strength will get better as the season progresses. That'd be huge because his breaking ball and offspeed stuff is as dirty as ever.

Perez still sucks though.

Fernando Tatis is still alive? I was so surprised to read this piece of news that I just had to check if it was about the same Fernando Tatis who just plain sucked with the Expos. And indeed it is!

That said, Tatis has done the job so far this year. His stats are impressive. Good for him.

Wow, Fernando Tatis. Maybe Rolando Arrojo will win a game for the Mets this weekend.

It was nice to see Sanchez bust his ass down the line on his bunt as well. Usually I'm pretty ambivalent about that kind of thing, but this particular team really needs that kind of effort right now.

The Mets seem to be patting themselves on their back an awful lot after two wins in a row. Last night's game was a big win and there were quite a few encouraging signs (Heilman, Endy, Dirty, Reyes), but I'd like to see this team win 10 out of 12 or something like that before I get too excited. We've been here before.

Not me. I just watch baseball, I haven't had any losing or winning streaks for the Mets myself, so I'll allow myself to get excited at this series win. ;-)
